Another E4OD with hard shifting

1994 f250 4x4 regular cab. Transmission shifts hard in 1-2 then feels like it skips 3 and goes into overdrive. There is often a hard clank sound when transmission is looking for 3 or overdrive. Does not sound good. WhenI bought this truck it was doing the same thing but going into limp mode. I changed the pcm, speed sensor, tach sensor, neutral safety switch, trans fluid & filter, throttle position sensor. Anything else I can do before replacing transmission?

when I changed the pcm I noticed that the wait to start light comes on…………and goes off before the glow plugs start clicking.

In order to go into limp mode it has to set codes.

Have you tried this method to read the codes? www.troublecodes.net/ford

The direct clutch is used for third gear and reverse. If you have third gear issues you should also have reverse issues.

These trucks have a program that shifts 1-2-3-lock-4. The lock in third gear happens right after the shift and can feel like one shift. Try this: Right after you feel it shifts 2-4 press the OD OFF button. Does it downshift? If so, it really did shift 2-4. If it didn't downshift, you felt the 3-3 lock, not a 2-4 shift.
