The tail pipe on the original exhaust on my wife's 86 F-150 5.0L has rotted off. So new exhaust time. I'm thinking headers. It's an EFI 5.0 AOD. Does it need the o2 sensors for the shot table? She might nix some thumpers. What are my options here? I do not need to maintain orig equip where I am.
TIA

The 1986 5.0L EFI has one O2 sensor. It is required for the EFI system to operate.
An option is to run only the two cats. Do away with the muffler. Replace it with a piece of pipe and replace the tail pipe. The new cat back system without muffler will not rot as it dries very quickly. It is not at all loud. I've been running mine this way for twenty years.
While we're doing show and tell, here's mine. That shiniest, offset piece is the muffler replacement. OEM muffler was an in at the top out at the bottom. That piece and the tailpipe are twenty years old.
