I have let people off of hundreds of dollars in damage to an old vehicle and made others pay for small dings in my rear bumper just like you pictured here. A 16 yr old girl hit my nearly new F150 years ago and left 2 dings like that. My thoughts were that the wrinkle in the chrome would allow it to rust underneath and come through eventually. So I made her insurance pay for it. It is a good life lesson for kids to learn to man up for their mistakes as well.
Even though those small dents are not in the body, I would still look into one of those paintless dent repair guys. It's amazing what they can do to pop out small dents and such. I imagine just because it's on a bumper it wouldn't change a whole lot. Might even make it easier since access behind the dents is a little better? Who knows.
Not everyone has rthat "it's a truck" mentality. I take the same care with my truck as any other vehicle I own. Crap happens, but it's one thing when you the owner screws up, it's another thing when some other person damges your property.
I think he has recieved some good advice. I dealt with something similar recently involving an idiot adult neighbor of mine.
i had to really look at the pic to see the dent. Most of us would never even notice it.
It obviously bothers you. Your once in a lifetime truck has two dents in it. They won't go away. You'll feel real good shelling out your own hard earned cash and having a resentment over it, but everyone will love you. We have to be held responsible for our actions and if someone avoids being responsible your not the jerk for holding them accountable. You deserve a new bumper installed by your shop of choice.
I saw the dents immediately, they are very obvious.
Well, if the kids father is a stand up guy, you shouldn’t even have to ask.
If he isn’t, I would try a dent guy first. If not up to new, then it’s a question you will have to ask yourself. Is the friendship worth it?
Luckily, it’s not body damage. .
Luckily, it’s not body damage. So true. It comes off easy and doesn't have to be painted like a tailgate. Hits on anything else are in a whole different ball park.

well I really appreciate all of the input. Here’s a picture in better light …. Yeah… you’d notice it.
i’m gonna have it fixed…. I’ve waited for this truck way too long to have this after two months of taking delivery. I guess that’s another way to look at it - I doubt any of us would take delivery of a new truck with that dent in the bumper. - just shrug it off as no biggie and tell the dealer or not to worry about it.
OP hasn't said how old this "kid" is, or whether he was old enough or supposed to be driving at all when this happened.
I would definitely have it fixed, and expect the insurance on the other vehicle to pay for it or the kid or his family to pay for it, that is only right.
I have only ever owned 1 Ford that didn't have a dent in the front bumper when I bought it. Weird but it seems to be common, for a while the joke was that they hit them all with a hammer on the way out the door.
All humor aside, here's my experience with damage caused by someone else:
Their insurance covers it. Period. End of statement.
Since you know the family you can follow up with them, but it NEEDS to be a claim on their insurance (kid or parents, whoever's policy the vehicle is on, regardless of who was driving), since your vehicle was parked and I'm presuming you weren't in it.
If it ends up on your insurance, then that claim won't fall off for 5 or 7 years, I forget which, and it's a stain on your insurance that you didn't even do, that raises your rates for something that wasn't your fault. Your insurance shouldn't be involved at all.
my 3 cents? Have the kid or his father buy a new bumper, and you swap it out.
Then sell the old bumper to someone (like me) who has an XL truck and wants the fog light bumper... I am in NY and my plate bracket would cover up those dings nicely... :P
