2003 250 V10 4x4 . I have a rubbing noise from the wheel and can feel a little bumping when I make hard turns in the parking lot. When I jack it up and move the wheel it feels solid no play. Could this be my manual hubs or something else? Not real knowledgeable on this.
Possibly a unit bearing? I had each side replaced on my ‘02 at 170ish miles. Same type of diagnosis, felt a little drag at low speeds and could hear what sounded like a faint brake pad grind. They are no longer rebuildable, as they once were. Again, just a guess.
It’s not the locking hubs. The front axle will make noise if the hubs are locked. The bump when turning is the u-joints binding. Leave the hubs unlocked unless your driving in weather that requires them to be locked.

thanks Evan. Just so I'm clear are you saying the noise is normal when in the locked position?
The bumping thumping turning hard with hubs engaged gets worse as the outboard u joints start to fail. I have just renewed mine after the U-joints got so bad they nearly caused me to crash when I could not turn out of the turn lane as I accelerated and tried to turn left. I typically leave mine engaged/locked all winter so 4wd is available when I want it.
some unevenness is there turning hard even when new.
