So, had a fire on the top of the engine after replacing the filter. Turns out the rubber line on the end closest to the pump cracked. So as Im attempting to start it, the carb backfires and catches the pooling fuel on fire. Luckily I had an extinguisher nearby.
Trying to upload a photo, but Ill need to resize it.
Ill need to replace the fuel lines, lightning cables, and the new temp sensor I just put in..
There were a few cables that will need to be replaced, but Ive never really done much electrical work. Looks like the ones leading to the capacitor (?) And maybe a few others. Ill get pics up when I can.
Those diagrams are insanely helpful. I found that the whole section of wires running from the distro and coil to the ignition module is toast, but the plugs look okay and the groups of wires after each plug are fine as far as I can tell. I'm not sure if you'd call this a "harness", but is there anyone that sells this? Or should I just try recreating my own by splicing into what's left?
This refers to the grommet colour on the ignition module.
From an old thread:
Ignition modules, 74 (black grommet) and 75 (green grommet) are year specific and will not interchange. 76 to 79 (blue grommet) are interchangeable. Ignition modules: 1974 is 1974 ONLY / 1975 is 1975 ONLY. Blue module introduced in 1976 was used well into the 1990's. D4AZ-12A199-C 1974 only
Finally got down to replacing these wires... old man winter really did me in. But now that the weather is finally above freezing I can get things done. Decided to splice most of the new wires to the old harness. Frustrating that the new one wasn't an exact fit, but hey what are you going to do?
I do have a question on one of the wires however. The old square 4 prong connector leading into the cab.. there's a red wire with a white stripe. Does anyone know what this goes to? It's got a plastic piece on the end of it, but I can't make out what it was.
Thanks all

And I guess this is just a newbie question, but what sort of aftermarket tach/oilpressure/etc gauges do you all recommend? My cheapo one was ruined, so I'm looking for something new to put in. If I can keep the old stuff working on the instrument cluster, that'd be ideal!
All depends on how much $ you want to spend. Look at some AutoMeter, Equus, Jegs, Summit racing, Bosch ect...for a 3 gauge (oil pressure, temp and volts). Alot of big box auto parts stores carry a standard 3 gauge that has a bracket to hang then under the dash. Then you have to take your eyes off the road to at them way down there.
T it in the oil pressure sender if you have actual gauge versus warning lights.
Look for another place to put the temp sensor on the block, intake or t stat neck.
Tach is stand alone item usually and you can get a signal from the coil.
Thanks for that! I've got actual gauges on the dash instead of just the warning lights. Good to have a good idea of where that oil sending unit is. I've heard it's a pain to get at on the 460.
Anyone have ideas on that red wire with white stripe? Coming from the square 4 pin connector going into the firewall on the Drivers side. I don't believe it's the temp sending wire, but I could be wrong.
Finally completed carb rebuild and it runs! Thanks for the assistance everyone.
Still not entirely sure where that red/white striped cable goes... Been going through the important links sticky and even with the diagrams I'm not entirely sure. The illustration that shows the connectors doesn't seem to have one as above.
Also bought some $40 gauges for the time being so I know what temp I'm at
