Heavy duty payload package
Hello
I have a 2018 f150 diesel crew 6.5 box. Want to run a camper, but only able to handle smaller campers.
Looking for specific details on parts required to upgrade my rig to the heavy duty payload package.
Can only find vague details and my dealer is not very helpful.
What I know... transmission cooler, heavy duty wheels? Upgraded shocks? (Leafs?) Supposed to add 500lb payload capacity.
Anyone have specific details?
Thanks

You probably have a higher level trim that’s not available with the HDPP.
Anyway, you aren’t adding anything to reach HDPP payload numbers. Anything that sits on that truck’s footprint takes away from payload.
HDPP trucks have a heavier duty frame that gets those sweet payload ratings. So, you need a different truck, period.
You have a lot of components that are heavy duty, just not the one major one that matters.

My thought is you could spend a lot and stlll not get to what you really need. Campers are heavy, as you know, and require a bigger truck.
My two cents,
Steve

Hmm I have not read any literature stating hdpp being related to a different frame.

Are you going to upgrade wheel bearings?
. . . axles?
. . . brakes?
. . . hubs?
. . . universal joints?
. . . differential?
. . . bed?
. . . frame?
. . . all moving parts in the front end?
. . . all load-bearing parts in the front end?
. . . tires?
Maybe I'm a bit out there with some of these, but these are many of the parts that are considered when they come up with weight ratings.
. . . and then you do all of these upgrades and it can sort of handle 300 pounds more than the sticker? . . . or even 500?
Is 500 enough? I bet, with help of a spreadsheet and CAT scale you'll find that it isn't.

Save yourself the aggravation and effort and do what others have stated. Get a bigger truck and buy a camper that is well under the maximum payload. You will eat up the 500 pounds quickly in the truck camper world.

Nothing wrong with the smaller campers. We are having a fun time with ours

yeah I had a bronco 600 made for a import. Just not quite big enough for us. The diesel puts my payload down to 1284 which puts me a bit shy to get into a full size pop up camper especially towing our boat.
was just hoping to get enough to get closer to 1500 or 1600 lbs to be able to get the next size pop-up camper
nobody seems to know what exactly the hdpp parts needed, been kinda frustrating, eventually I will get answers from someone who knows.
thx

Here’s what I found in the 2018 F-150 Order Guide (see below).
Here’s a link to the 2018 F-150 Specs brochure; the HDPP does appear to include a frame upgrade:

The 2017 Spec brochure may also be useful, as it contains spring specs:

I will toss this out in the event it might appy. Truck camper weights are notoriously inaccurrate when used to anticipate actual "ready to go weights" On the last pop-up we had the dry weight was listed under 2,000 pounds, but scaled in the bed of the truck with everything it took to fasten it down and with water the etcs., it scaled over 3,000 pounds. A struggle to gain payload capacity of 400 - 500 pounds when a 1,000 pounds is really necessary could be a disappoint. Just be sure to have the BS meter turned on when reviewing camper weights.

No matter what you do to upgrade your rig, the door sticker is the legal limit for your truck
