Hi all, new to the forum here. I searched and was unable to find answers so starting a new thread. I recently purchased a 2009 F-150 Supercrew 4.6L. It had a number of deferred maintenance items that I've been taking care of as I have time. It's only got 82k miles, so hopefully I can get a lot more life out of it.
Anyways... My next issue is as follows. The passenger rear door has been replaced. They paint matched it- and from the outside it looks good. However, none of the controls work to the door- window, lock and most annoyingly the rear door ajar light is on. Also, doesn't open from the inside- I'm thinking latch isn't connected. I pulled the door panel off this weekend, and none of the plugs are hooked up. Of course, I get excited thinking maybe they just got in a rush and didn't plug in. Nope- the electric plugs and receivers are all different (besides the one for the window (and possibly speaker). I also noticed the door panel didn't seem to fit quite perfect. So my working theory is that this was replaced with door from a new F-150 (2013, 14, etc) which has different internals. What I've found seems to suggest these were all the same from 2009-14, so I don't know?
I'm wondering what the best way to go about this would be? I'm hoping not to replace the door since the paint match is pretty good and the wind noise is quiet going down the road. Anyone have any thoughts or ideas on how to fix it? May have to send it to the shop soon. The door ajar light is driving me nuts.
If you can get the harness and switches that match your trucks wiring you might be able to transplant them in the new door, otherwise replace whole door or live with it.
I would look for a 09-10 harness and replace only the harness in your door. There is no reason, I would think, to change the door itself. I had this issue on a Chevy HHR once. I used a different year door to replace a damaged one and I had to use my old harness. It took an hour or so but it can be done.
