I traveled down to the bay area to visit my mom last week. While chatting with her elderly neighbor we started talking about his 07 f250 with a lance cabover. He said he couldn't drive it because it was idling too high and scared him. He wanted to have it towed to the dealer and sell it. It has 35,000 miles on it and all service was done at the dealer. He has all records. He said he wants $15,000.00 but his wife wants $25,000.00. A huge difference I know. When I asked her about buying it (without mentioning price) she lit up and said I would be doing them a favor because registration and full coverage ins. costs so much.
I grew up with them next door & always offered to gave them a hand. I'm thinking they might accept a low offer because they think of me as a son.
I'm not a mechanic, and I've heard nothing but bad about 6.0's. My long winded post leads me to the question-would you buy it? What would you do if you did?
My 01' isnt running again. I want to sell it and buy another truck. After seeing the prices of new I think maybe God put this 6.0 in front of me.
If the truck looks like it only has 35K miles, it is worth more than $25k in this market. Offer to meet them half way between their offers and it would be a steal. Of course you'll have to figure out what's up with that high idle.

Thanks Chris. Its nice to get a constructive answer.
That's kind of what I was thinking. I've been reading once you address all the common problems with the 6.0 they are good trucks. I could probably sell my 7.3 and pay for this one. I'm thinking that $5000 should get it bullet proofed and reliable.
Its also got a nice fully contained cabover camper. Being retired, we could do some traveling.
Well, my non-constructive answer was just a joke - we do that a lot here. However, this isn't: IMHO, you should forget about the bullet-proofing. If the truck doesn't have head gasket issues, just maintain it properly and drive. There are some basic things to be done - blue spring upgrade and fuel pressure gauge come to mind - and some common issues that arise with well-documented fixes; but for the most part, IMHO, it's just about keeping clean fluids and filters in the truck and not tuning it up for high performance. I've driven these engines hundreds of thousands of miles without bulletproofing and never had any gasket issues (except when I left my degas cap off the ambulance before driving 300miles non-stop).
Here's a crazy opinion, not sure if it's accurate: starting with a good engine/gaskets, you would be less likely to have head gasket issues by simply reflashing your PCM with the stock Eseries tune than by doing the whole ARP studs/headgasket thing. You lose significant horsepower doing that - Eseries are detuned vs Fseries, otherwise all the same - but Eseries rarely have gasket issues as a result. If you're just a retired couple looking to travel a little, and are happy with the size of your ********* now, the horsepower difference shouldn't bother you.
What Commie said above. Forget about "bullet-proofing", with that low of miles I would just do the basics and then drive it. Mid 06 to 07 were the best versions of the 6.0 and got the upgraded 20mm heads. Still have the STC fitting, dummy plugs, fuel spring, etc but there's no need to assume you need head gaskets & studs.
For reference I picked up my mint-condition late 06 with 100k miles on it back in late '19 for $15k (pre-COVID). I could probably sell it for $20k+ in today's stupid price world. $20k for that truck is a great deal if there aren't any mechanical issues and the truck is in good shape.
For the record, my E450, with the detuned engine, hauls me and about 16-17,000lbs all over the country about 50k miles a year without a performance problem. You might be pushing 12,000lbs with that rig, depending on the camper weight.
I would go for it. I have had my late 06 for 8 years now and have only had an issue with egr cooler leaking. Fixed that and still no other issues on factory head gaskets and bolts. Absolutely no tune in truck. It currently has around 64,000 miles on the truck and I have been offered $25,000 for the truck. Given today's market I am just going to hang on to mine as I would have to just about get a new one to be as nice and I am just not willing to pay $90-$100K for a new truck.
