Question Where does this hole go?

Besides the usual "your mom" places, the rear capped hole in the valley pan - does it drain into the crankcase and oilpan? I'd like to use it as an oil return spot for a turbo install I'm whipping up.

Next question is why does the pipe plug have a through-hole?! That implies whatever this is "capping" is/was venting to the air. Somehow I feel like this isn't quite right.

Does it have a square hole on the other side, where you used a
Socket extension to remove it?

If so, that is where water, Diesel etc... drains down the back side
of the engine from the Valley Pan.

It sure did have a 3/8 square socket. I was curious why a "pipe plug" had a hole right through it. Well yes, turns out it just drains off down the back side of the block around the transmission bell housing. So, not useful for what I was hoping to do!

Time to engineer something to use the CDR wormhole.
