Way,. way (and I mean WAY) too much food yesterday. We spent the day in SF (Sunset district) and there was just way too much food. Turkey, tri-tip, AND brisket. Oh my! I think we also fed a couple of neighbor families. I'm happy the turkey was not stuffed, but everyone else was.

Good morning Nor Cal... No smash and grab here in my little comunity, thank God. Where's Charles Bronson when we need him?

I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving, my wife had a good one just the two and lots of food. I didn't get any photos of the completed bunch of stuff. Here are a couple in the process.

I took a drive around town today. City and County of San Francisco looks like an occupied territory. Cops everywhere. There must have been at least one cop, every 50 feet. The entire traffic division was assigned. Gangs of cops on Harleys roaring around like it was Sturgis. All of the distinctive uniformed retired police officers. The police even had a RV parked downtown. Every agency with a badge and gun was represented. Police from different schools, the animal control cops, railroad police, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, US Park Police...... Even San Francisco Park Rangers could be seen on patrol. The only people not invited onto the playing field was SF Sheriff. Local politics. SFPD has a program to charge merchants for security service. That sounds like a shake-down, when the police who are suppose to protect you, charge you for the protection which they are already suppose to provide. SF Sheriff wants to do the same thing. So the 2 agencies have been at odds because of money. A lot of political bickering at City Hall. Different elected members of City Government are supported in their campaigns by either the Police Officers Association or Deputy Sheriff Association. When the SF Police collect money for police protection, sometimes they will pay some of that money to outside agencies for the staffing - like subcontracting. There's not enough SF Police to fill the demand for security, so maybe they call the dental school or law school downtown, and a few of the campus officers from UOP or Hastings will stand guard at designated stores. But they won't let the SF Sheriff send deputies. Because they are trying to start a separate program to compete for security contracts.

The entire weekend has been a food festival. Everybody who did not host a meal on Thursday, used that as the excuse to host a meal on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. With a few variations on side dishes, everyone had beef, turkey, and crab. I should not complain. Every turkey was harvested by a family member. We have so many fishing enthusiast in the family, that every house had piles of fresh caught dungeness crab. Buckets of crab. Buckets with water from the ocean, and aerators on lithium batteries, to keep those crab alive and feisty until it was time to go in a pot. Sometimes I take it for granted. I forget that not every family shoots or fishes. What we really need is a rancher in the family. Then we can get beef, lamb, pork, and chicken without buying it from a store.

and the first payment on property tax is due this week, then another 3 weeks until we start the adventure of filing income tax. Just love the end of the year.

Look on the bright side. You actually own property, and had income.

Point taken. 5 years into retirement, and we still have money left. if we run it out, I don't know what we'll do, but it looks like we have a few years to go.

I shudder at the thought of growing old to be broke. My generation will be in homeless shelters instead of nursing homes. With skilled nursing costing $500 a day, I better die fast.
