Pelosi is a member of The House of Representatives, and Speaker of the House. Pelosi is in Washington D.C., as the Representative for the 12th Congressional District. Should Pelosi actually care about the quality of life in the district which she is suppose to represent? I don't know if that is her job to care. I do know that crime is going up, and the quality of life is effected by a rise in crime.
The Patrol Special Officer was simply expressing the frustration that a lot of people feel. That cable news show was obviously presenting an opinion of dissatisfaction because they do not like Pelosi. The feeling of dissatisfaction could also be assigned to every one of our elected officials. From a District Attorney and Sheriff at the local level, all the way up POTUS. We, as the citizens, have to accept the responsibility that we voted them into office. Let the elected official know if you no longer support them. Tell them that you will vote for a recall, and you will not vote for them at the next election. Some of these people who have been in the same office for decades is because we elected them to continue serving. It's our fault for continuing to elect them.
It's not political. No matter who is elected to serve in whichever office, citizens will always be unhappy when crime is up.
Friday was San Francisco. Saturday was Walnut Creek at Nordstroms. There will be more crime sprees.
Stores in Concord, Walnut Creek, San Francisco, Hayward, and San Jose were robbed. Jewelry, yoga pants, sunglasses, luggage, polo shirts......nothing was left behind. The thieves are now ready to go on a cruise. Some criminal is calling a Blitz Play. The general public, the retail shopper, got sacked. We will pay for all of the increased security measures and losses incurred by the retailers. Even if you don't shop at Louis Vuitton, the entire retail industry is affected. Stores you do shop at, CVS, Safeway, Costco, Wal*Mart......who are already suffering from inventory shrinkage, will also have to spend more for loss prevention.
Thieves like this are just warming up. It's going to get worse. Imagine the chaos of After Turkey Day sales.
Well, now it is happening here. Six stores in Fresno/Clovis have been hit by shoplifters. One store has been hit four times by the same guy! How does THAT happen? People are getting fear less, I guess.
Retail crime has elevated from petty theft to felony robbery. The CHP now has a division which investigates retail theft. The Sac Bee reports that The Gavinator is increasing police funding. What happened to defund the police?
It's happening all over the place. I heard Chicago, and some place in Ohio. The shear volume and coordination seems to indicate that this is some sort of organized crime ring (or rings).
The whole "defund the police" thing caught someone's attention, and as usual, it gets all the publicity. There was an excellent episode on 60 Minutes on Sunday night where they discussed what they are trying to do in Austin, TX. They pointed out that something like 95% of police calls have nothing to do with what we need police for. You don't need police to rescue your cat from a tree, or for drug overdoses, and a bazillion other things. What Austin is doing is keeping the police budget, but re-directing a large portion of it to other non-emergency, non-uniformed crews who can deal with the non-emergency non-violent episodes.
When it's all fun and games, social media is used to organize complete strangers into spontaneous activity. Flash mobs full of strangers raid a shopping mall, and break into dance. A little more sophistication, and people with common interest unite to have a pillow fight on Valentine's Day. The same channel of open communication allows us to have forums on the internet, such as this one, where people who do not know each other can communicate our thoughts. That's exactly the same way drag racers organize their events. Unfortunately, side shows are also organized via social media outlets. And now, massive theft.
I would expect that investigators will get search warrants for the arrested persons' electronic devices. If police can use the internet to catch predators, they will be able to electronically monitor or infiltrate the social media platform being used to call everybody out to steal. One or more of the people arrested will cooperate, tell the police how they got the message to come loot Union Square, and the police will be able to monitor future outings. Thugs online are using Facebook and Twitter, or whatever the current trend is.
Without recent left and right political agendas, police agencies have been trying to redesign police services for years. For at least a couple of decades, as far as I can remember, police unions have been vocal about officers being dispatched for calls which police officers are not qualified to handle. Police are not psychologist, social workers, or counselors. In the ideal world, there would be a network of social workers, mental health professionals, and medical personnel to respond to domestic disturbances, crazy people acting out in public, and mentally ill in distress calls. The real politics has never been right or left. It has to do more with City Hall, Mayor's Office, Board of Supervisors, City Council, Police Department administrators - all wrangling over every penny in the budget and how it is allocated. In San Francisco, before any money is given to any department, it is already earmarked for spending. That is why they can't buy all new cars. And several years ago, the police department had to solicit money from merchants for new guns. It brings you to tears when City Administration says, here's $$$XXXmillion for your next fiscal budget, but don't buy guns with it, that won't look good.
It's all on the flotilla outside of the LA Long Beach Harbor. Foreign, imported liquor. If you drink American liquor, there may be some left on the shelf.
I didn't want to take any chances. I cooked the turkey tonight, early, so that I can start drinking early. As the entire country could run out of alcohol by tomorrow. I want to drink my Pabst Blue Ribbon while there is still a can to drink.
Albertsons had the $0.49 per lb turkey. That's what I went with. Deboned it. Not every bone. Just the main carcass and thigh bones. It takes about an hour to do. It saves about an hour of cooking time. I don't use a roasting rack. I pile carrot, celery, onion, and bell pepper on the bottom of the pan, then set the bird on top. The bird juices drip down to flavor the veggies. The veggies steam the bird. I'm left with a moist turkey, and very flavorful pan drippings for gravy.
