have been joking with my wife about upgrading to a 5th wheel from our travel trailer. liking the layout of the Dutchmen Astoria 3603LFP, but prices are all over the place. One dealer is offering 25% off msrp and one is selling at msrp. plus right now build quality for most brands is not there since they cant afford to fire bad workers.
Quality control will never improve until buyers start focusing on quality rather than price.
Very true. Quality in the RV industry has been bad for quite some time and the industry is well aware....and doesn't care, as they're still selling units.
The msrp of our camper went up over 12k for the same model year! 2021 Sierra 3330BH. Glad I bought late last year.
Trailers we were looking at in 2018 were around 35...now the same units are 50. Hard to swallow the poor fit and finish at 35, let alone worse at 50! Walked into an Arctic Wolf 3660 that had wall panels separating by 1/2", cabinet doors that wouldn't close, binding entry door, etc. Disappointing.
Have you seen the pricing on new/used travel trailers? Wow. Seriously thinking about selling our travel trailer and steping into a 5th wheel (Artic Wolf 3550 suite).
We sold our Gulf Stream TT back in April '21 for $3k less than we bought it for in '17. We bought a '21 PrimeTime Sanibel and got about 28% off MSRP at FunTown in Wharton, TX. Had to drive about 300 miles to get it. We have been fortunate as we have had very minor issues that I have fixed myself because I don't want to leave it with them for 3 months to fix them.
And they never seem to want to fix any of the issues PRIOR to you signing the paperwork.
That's why they do the "walk through" AFTER the papers are signed. Push it out the door and hope you never see them again. And with two service doors, how many RVs can they actually service in a week.

Not sure you can still get away with this now days with the huge demand for campers. But the last two I bought I told the salesman before we even started looking at 5th wheels was that
"#1. I am buying a camper.
#2. I am not signing a check until the camper is checked out by a 3rd party pdi inspector (at my cost) and that everything he finds is fixed. If that's a problem I can shop elsewhere".
Both campers were inspected and everything repaired within 2 weeks.
I just booked our Jayco Pinnacle. Paid $69k 3/20/20. Sticker was $96k new (we actually bought this new - it was a hail damaged RV and they fixed everything). It now books for $80k with no add ons..... Makes me want to sell and take a year off camping, but, what would I do next summer.....

Take a tent into the beautiful Black Hills and rough it.
After being in a camper for 30+ years, I'll pass on the tent. There are a lot of camping cabins available we could do. Biggest issue is we have plans to go to Glacier in July. And, we rent our RV for the motorcycle rally. Guess I answered my own question..... lol
