Starting issue

I have a 2007 f150xlt. 4.6…been great and done a lot of work to it but recently when I go to start it sometimes it will just click. I’ll wait a bit try it again same thing. Then I’ll do it again and fires right up. The starter is only a year old and battery is newer than that. I’m thing something electrical. Anytime it actually turns it fires right up but it’s weird sometimes it clicks several times and then the next it will start sometimes if fires up right away. Any thoughts on what the issue is?

Maybe check the battery cables......make sure they tight, clean, no corrosion.

Battery

Cables are good no corrosion and good connection on both.

Not even any corrosion down by the starter motor?

So where does the click sound emanate from?

Click sound

Sounds like it’s coming from inside the cab somewhere on my right. Pretty sure it’s coming from the fuse box

Your starter relay in fuse box passenger side may have burnt contacts or the stabs on the relay are corroded. The click you hear is probably the start relay , buy a new one first, shoot some contact cleaner in stabs .

In that case, that click is probably coming from the starter relay.

I’d next measure the voltage drop across the cable going from the relay down to the starter motor solenoid, and across the cable from the battery positive post down to the starter motor to see if those cables are capable of carrying the amperage required to crank it.

Thanks a lot. At least I have a starting place. I’ll let you know later when I have time to check.
