I’ve searched the various front end popping/clunking threads but couldn’t find anything that was direct enough.
I’ve got 5500 miles on my 2021 F250. I’ve had a 1.5” spacer level and Bilstein 5100 shocks that I did myself since around 3500 miles.
I was coming home Saturday night and made a left turn at a green light with no oncoming traffic, so I was probably around 15-20mph. In the middle of the turn I heard a pop from the driver side that sounded like I ran over a soda bottle.
Yesterday morning I was making a left turn at a stop sign in my neighborhood. So this was slow speed from a stop and in the middle of the left turn I hear a pop and also felt something from the driver side front wheel. Again I thought I ran over a soda bottle. It was at this moment that I said to myself wait a minute I heard the same noise during a left turn on Saturday night.
This morning I’m at a red light. Light turns green and I go and as I’m getting started I heard the pop again. Didn’t feel anything but this time it sounded like it was coming more from the center of the truck than the drivers side.
My hubs are in auto although I think I will cycle in and out of 4wd this afternoon just to. Everything is torqued. I know my sway bar to frame mounts are torqued too tight because I didn’t know what the spec was and I aired on the side of too much rather than not enough. Not sure that can cause a popping sound though.
Time to get under the truck and spend time checking all the nuts and bolts. Popping to me sounds like somethings loose or binding or a bad ball joint
I’ve put a wrench on everything I’ve touched to do the level and shocks. Everything is tight. I’m due for a tire rotation so I’ll do the wiggle test on the front wheels when I get them off the ground to check the ball joints. I’m also going to cycle in and out of 4wd a couple times today just in case it has to do with the hubs.
Get under there with the truck on and have someone move the steering side to side. You can usually pinpoint movement in track bar very easily even though you didn’t touch it, a hard jerk could have popped it loose. Sometimes things aren’t even torqued right from the factory.
I had something similar to this on my 19. Ended up being the steering shaft. Dealer wouldn’t replace it even under warranty ended up just doing it myself. Solved the problem
That popping sound went away for about 2 months. All of a sudden this past week it is intermittently back. Instead of hearing it when accelerating, I’m not hearing it on deceleration just as the truck is coming to a stop. I can imagine it is anything serious but boy is it annoying!
