2004 Escape clunk while turning.

I have a 2004 Ford Escape(V6 3.0) with 120k miles.

I've noticed when making a turn I hear a "clunk" noise. I sounds like it's coming from the front. Yesterday it sounded like it was in the front right and this morning it sounded like it came from under my feet(front left).

This only happens once while driving. When I turn on the car to go to work and make my first turn I hear this little clunk. Never happens again while turning on my way to work. On the way home from work it's the same thing; first turn clunk then nothing.

This morning when I got to work I turned car off and back on after 20 seconds. Then drove around the block. It made the clunk noise on the first turn again, but not the next three turns.

So it seems it makes the clunking noise after the car is started up on the first turn regardless if I had just driven 20 miles and restarted the car or if it's been sitting over night.

I hope that made sense. It it does have one bad shock that was leaking and I'm getting that fixed Friday. My clunking problem doesn't sound like a shock issue, does it? From what i know shocks are in the back and it would seem to be a separate issue.I'd like to be able to speak more clearly to the mechanic when I take it in for the shocks so that they can try to figure out why its 'clunks'. But why does it only do it once? Argghghhh.....

Thanks.
