Need '56 Mercury Hood Letters

I recently got a 1956 M100 project truck, and desperately need a set of hood letters. Virtually everything else is there, and in nice condition, but the hood letters are missing. Please PM me if you have a set for sale, I would really appreciate it to have this finishing touch for my truck. Also, feel free to post leads on where I might find a set. I'm ready to pay good money for a decent set. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure you're going to pay good money for a not so decent set. If you can find them at all.

These are ones I have and I've looked for better ones. Ones I've found are in 10 times worse shape and they were asking anywhere from $350 to $500 for them.
I had nothing to loose so tried cleaning them up and got them to this point and found a place to have them re-chromed but haven't taken that step yet..

Well, as they say, beggars can't be choosers, I'll take whatever I can find. And John, thank you for posting the pictures of the exact set I'll need!

I messaged the above contact via Facebook, he said he has no 1956 hood letters. However, I did find a set in Ontario on Kijiji, we came to a price agreement and they're supposed to be on the way! Thanks to everyone for their suggestions and help.

That's pretty funny! Still have a little left for the project, hoping the chrome plater doesn't clean me out the rest of the way.

Mine wasn't much better, but guys are treating these things like they were gold. If you do most of the work to them before taking them some place to have chromed you'll save yourself quit a bit..

What did you do to clean yours up so well? I saw the before and after and was quite impressed!

I sanded them on a flat surface starting with 100 grit and working eventually to 3000 grit to remove the scratches from the previous grit. I contacted a chrome shop and showed what I had and they said if it can go straight to plating the minimum charge would be $75..

John, if you could part with those letters for a week or so I would like to borrow them and make molds. I'll pay the postage both ways and send you a set of casted letters if you like. Chuck
