Ok, don't take this wrong. Because there is NO ill will here. We have to go with what you are telling us as we are not there to witness what you are witnessing. And we don't have any history on this engine or truck. As you may or may not know, oil floats on top of water/coolant. Which means it will accumulate in the Degas bottle. When you drain the coolant, you are draining it from the very bottom of the cooling system, the radiator. So if there is any oil in your coolant, it will settle in the bottom of the Degas bottle. The likely hood it will drain out of the bottom of the radiator is slim. As any oil in the system has to go through a myriad of passages to get to the bottom of the radiator. And it will most likely cling to interior passage ways long before it reaches that point. Unless you have a LOT of oil in your coolant system.
BUT, in your pic of the Degas bottle, it looks like a thin oil film is sitting on the bottom. So it is very likely you do have an oil cooler leak. Did the previous owner give you ANY details about mods to this engine? B
its not oil. i can drain the coolant and show you guys. it doesnt come out dark. also my oil is still full and doesnt look like its mixing with anything
Hmmm. Looks kinda strange to me. It may be only coolant, but it looks like a caramel shake. What does it taste like when you dip your finger in it? Seriously, if your finger isn't oily, id be surprised.
its a head gasket going bad. guy said its starting to go allow coolant in.
4500 bucks is what he said to stud the motor and replace it.
does that sound fair?
IDK, but it does sound like what I'd have bet $100 he'd say. I could make good money too betting on what the AC repairman recommends after you ask him to go up in your attic and tell you what's wrong.
I also think that you can't go in without suspecting that your heads might have to be replaced as well - think "furnace" from that AC guy - and be prepared to spend another $3500. All I can recommend is look broke, sound broke, and drive trucks that are barely worth putting money into when you get price estimates.

Lots of good head gaskets have been replaced on the 6.0 platform because mechanics didn't know how to diagnose ruptured EGR or oil cooler.
That being said, see post 10, 12 and be 13. Run the coolant pressure test outlined in post 13. Once up to temp, release the coolant pressure by removing the degas cap. Reinstall the cap and run it pretty hard again and see if the coolant system builds pressure. If it builds more that 2 psi after up to full operating temps AND after releasing the pressure, you have an EGR rupture OR bad head gaskets. Because your EGR has been deleted, it's a 99% certainty it's head gaskets.
Because you have bubbling in the degas bottle, I'm pretty sure the head gaskets are compromised because you EGR is deleted.
The test for exhaust gases in the coolant system is not a very dependable test on a diesel with EGR chambers because once an EGR chamber ruptures, it could result in a positive.... Even years later.
I don't spend that kind of money until I know for sure. Run the coolant pressure test. I did and it confirmed my head gaskets were good.
$4500 sounds like a fair price if it includes the oil cooler. I also wouldn't do head gaskets without ringing the heads.
once the guy from the shop showed me everything you could easily see how it was a headgasket. thanks everyone who helped me figure it out
thats for 4.5k
Do you have pics of your head and block deck surfaces? And the gaskets? Engine has to come out if you do the cam. Don't do just the lifters without a darn good inspection of the camshaft lobes. If you have a bad lifter roller, you most likely have a damaged cam lobe also. B.
