Glad to hear LMC didn't renig after all. When I ordered a pair of side marker lights, I got two rights (one mis-boxed). The sent a new one and let me keep the other.
The PLOT THICKENS !!..LMC was as good as their word and sent a new lock. My mechanic...(Top notch shop..and he has 25 years at the same address..and he works on my Mercedes and my Hummer)...so I trust him. The new lock did the same thing..I( called LMC..they are refunding my $$$ and paying for return of both locks. NOW..they are concerned that they have a bunch of bad locks..SO..Does anyone have parts truck sitting that they would sell the drivers door lock from ? I'll try one that works for sure..to see if it works in mine. I've had this truck 15 years. No wrecks..even original paint..so..it has to be the locks..Thanks..jv....1984 F150..
The original lock would not unlock with the key..nor would the **** release the lock from the inside. The only way to unlock from inside was to use the inside handle. Put a new lock and clips from LMC...Same problem..Any suggestions ?.Truck never wrecked or damaged..???...Thanks..Jerry.....................
Pulling the inside handle to unlock the door is, as you know, normal so at least that works. When the door is unlocked does the outside handle work?

Being a former parts dealer your nomenclature is confusing me about what you actually replaced. The lock is what you put the key in. The latch is what clamps onto the striker pin to hold the door closed.

That what is sound like to me. Either it is bad, needs lubricated or the rods adjusted.
Well... Might be time to throw in the towel. The original FORD latch does the same thing. Everything will work for 3-4 times...the..back to malfunction. I'm about tired of screwing with it..as is my mechanic..Any more thoughts before I quit ??...thanks. though...Jv...
So obviously the latch in not the problem. What about door and pin alignment? I would compare the side that works to the side that doesn't. The height of the pin in relation to the latch(vertical height from the ground up), and also the length of the pin in relation to the door jamb. I believe they do put washers behind the pin sometimes as spacers.
And then you have the position of the pin horizontal to the ground. Does the latch work if you try to work it with someone pushing in on the door? Does it have new rubber on the door and it's too tight?
There were millions of these trucks made, most all their door latches work. It's there and probably simple, you just have to find out what it is.
WELL..It's fixed..Mr. Mr. Franklin had some ideas..I was sure everything was in alignment, as the truck is low miles..never hit..even original paint. My mechanic "knew a guy..who knew a guy" and got a latch from a 1991 F-250..And. comparing the factory latch to the LMC,..there are some differences..one being the thickness and heft of the latch itself...Thanks to all who offered help..I really appreciate it...JV.....................
