How to replace door lock assy'

somebody decided to put a screwdriver in my door lock to break into my truck last night! arrrg!, now I need to replace the door lock, how hard is this to do? The dealer wants $100 CDN for the install and $80 for the lock. So if I can I would like to replace it myself.

Anyone done this before?

thanks Joey

It's not that big of a job, I did it on my 99, pretty straight forward.
If you have mechanical ability, you should have no problem.
Are you replacing the whole plastic part or only the lock cylinder?

Ford Blue:

This is relatively straight forward. Picture in your mind the lock from inside the door - there is a "U" shaped clip that is indexed into two grooves in the lock that holds it in place. The clip is usually underneath the weatherstripping in the door jamb directly in line with the lock. Gently move the weatherstripping and the "tab" from the u clip should be visible. Work it out with a putty knife until there is enough exposed that you can grab it with a pair of pliers and pull it out. The lock should come out into your hand.

Like a house lock, there will be a mechanism on the back side that indexes into the door latch.

Check with a locksmith as they may be able to repair the lock for a much lesser cost. Even if you buy a new lock it will have to go to a locksmith for rekeying or you will have two keys for your truck.

Best of luck.
