5R110W Low/Reverse Retaining Ring

Hello, can anyone tell me when did Ford update the low/reverse retaining ring to the second design? This was because the snap ring would walk out of place and in most cases would destroy the case. I read two articles about the upgrades and fixes to the 5R110W on the internet. The first article said there was several updates in 2007 and 2008. It really didn't state when the snap ring got updated. The 2nd article said that there was a first and second design snap ring for the 5R110W. The 2nd article stated that the second design snap ring was started in 2008. I also learned there is a updated snap ring for the gas engines and one for the diesel engine in 2nd article. The gas snap ring is wavy to address reverse engagement issues. The diesel snap ring is flat and thicker with small tabs on each end of the snap ring to help keep it from rotating. Thanks for any information and it is greatly appreciated. I have a 2005 F450 that did just this and cracked the case. It would be helpful to know so I could get a used transmission with that updated snap ring and related parts.

The snap ring was "updated" in 2005. It was then updated again to fix the 2005 screw up later in 2005. It's the first part of 2005 that has the bad snap ring.
