Transmission Diagnosis ‘91 e150 e4od
91 E150 e4od
purchased at 156k have since put 7,500 miles all in town driving.
Intermittent Hard shifting between 1-2 since purchase.
Transmission filter and service.
no difference.
overdrive dash button never functioned, finally replaced that.
I was advised to disconnect battery then test, it still had hard shifting.
Then disconnect battery, and turn off OD, then test.
So far no hard shifting if I leave OD off.
Tech advised me to do these tests as his shop is very busy and can’t get me in for a few weeks. He says this is more than likely a bad torque converter and I will need a new transmission.
Does this sound correct?

No, it does not sound correct. If the torque converter were bad it would cause hard shifting in all of the gears and it would make the OD OFF light flash.
My guess is that the 1-2 accumulator valve is sticking. It is located in the accumulator body inside the pan. It's the body at the front when you take the pan off.
