2022 Super Trailer TPMS Kit

I did a search and nothing came up, so here goes:
I ordered the Trailer TPMS when I ordered my truck. At the time, I didn't realize this was a "customer install Accy".
The kit came with everything needed to install the Trailer Camera (sans camera) and the Trailer TPMS.
In reading thru the instructions, it appears if you do this install, it will disable the 5th Wheel electrical hookups in the truck bed. That is a deal breaker.
Also, it appears that the wiring harness for the TPMS module connects to that connection (on the back bumper). I think Ford should be more up front what is involved with this since they are charging $500 for it.
Can anybody shed any light on this? Am I reading this wrong?
I already have a TPMS from TireMinder, but was trying to eliminate one more screen in the cab of the truck.

On my 20 Platinum with the trailer back up, all I needed to do was install the sensors in the trailer wheels, and plug in the harness to the extra spot inside the bed. I didn't even need to run the cable to the trailer, the box picked up the sensors from my 40' enclosed gooseneck. You have to do a program sequence to recognize the sensors but otherwise was plug & plan. The kit I ordered did include a bunch of extra stuff I did not end up using for those without the 12 pin? (I can't remember how many pins are in the additional harness) but if you have the pro-trailer package I believe you should have no issues. At least that is my hope as I plan to do the same with my 22' Lariat F450.

I do not believe the 5th wheel hook up in the bed will be disrupted, if anything it just adds the 12 pin plug you either already have, or are lacking. At least that is my memory of how it all went together, I suppose I could be entirely wrong.

This was a thread I started about it, which doesn't exactly address your question.

On my 2020 the only thing disabled was the bumper 4 pin trailer connector, only because i chose to add the included 7 & 12 way plug to the bumper.

In bed 7 & 12 way in use for my 5th wheel and rear camera
Bumper 7 & 12 way in use when pulling my boat. and rear camera.

Thanks to you all for that information.
Still not sure what to do. I am thinking I might just replace the In-Bed plugs with the 7&12 way plug that came with the kit. but I am afraid the 12-way trailer/TPMS connector they refer too is only under the rear bumper and therefore I will have to install the 7/12 in the bumper! Not liking that as then I will have all that cable hanging back there! Decisions, Decisions!

Do you have the TPMS kit on your boat trailer? I have been wanting to add it to my truck and boat trailer, but I can't get positive information that the trailer mounted sensor is 100% waterproof.

Very few things are 100% waterproof. I would assume that it is water resistant and mount it with that in mind.

I ordered my 2020 with the fifth wheel prep, so it came with a 7/12 in the bed, and a 7/4 in the bumper

included in the kit was a 7/12 plug, you just snap the 7/4 out of the bumper, snap the 7/12 in the bumper, and find the wiring connectors up behind the spare tire.

Then You can plug into whatever connector makes most sense for the particular haul.

So, I’ve been wondering about the Trailer TPMS (no camera) Accessory and almost started a thread about it. I included it on my order, but have had a hard time finding out what will be required of me for the “customer install”. I realize I will have to have a tire shop install the valve stems sensors in the trailer tires, but it’s a little fuzzy after that. Everything I’ve read and watched involves the kit with the camera. As I understand it, I will have to replace the 7/4 connector in the bumper with the included 7/12 connector. Then, plug the wire connector behind the bumper into the back of the 7/12 connector. I’m at a loss after that. How does the truck communicate with the sensors? Does something get mounted on the trailer? This set up will be on a boat if that matters. Are the sensors waterproof? Obviously they would be submerged when launching the boat. I found the attached photo of the kit at the Ford Accessory site.

It is pretty easy, I have it on a boat trailer as well.

thre is a harness that mounts on the trailer. In my case I have ultimate trailer tow, so it has three connectors. One for a receiver for the TPMS system. I have not had any problem mounting the receiver at the front of the trailer where it does not get dunked, even with steel belted Michelin truck tires on my trailer the receiver picks up the TPMS signals with no issue.

On mine there is also the camera harness that plugs into the trailer harness and the yaw sensor that plugs into the trailer harness.

on your I think you will only have the TPMS harness.

the trailer harness terminates with the 12 pin connector, when you connect the trailer you plug in the normal 7 pin connector, and the separate 12 pin connector.

the first time you connect it all you have to train the TPMS sensors, you do that through the truck screen and met air out of each trailer tire in the sequence the truck tells you, be prepared, my ties are at 80 psi and I had to air down into the 50’s to get them to register, so be prepared to fill them back up.

How does the harness mount to the trailer? Is it adhesive or screws? I have some reservations about drilling into a brand new boat trailer. I will also have the Ultimate Trailer Tow. Can you send a pic of your setup? If not, can you point out which one is the trailer mounted harness in my photo? I’m assuming this kit does not require that I use everything shown.

The wire harness in your picture is the trailer harness. In your picture the harness has two connectors, one will be for the TPMS receiver, which is the little box in the lower right hand corner of the picture. The other connector looks like it is for the camera, but I don't see the camera in your picture. Since my truck has 5th wheel prep is has a third connector on the harness, which is for the yaw sensor.

The connector with the red sealing ring on the end is the end that connects to the truck through the 12 pin socket, the 7/12 pin socket that you will replace the 7/4 pin socket with is the piece just to the left of the TPMS reciever.

Above the TPMS receiver is a dummy socket you mount on the trailer that the connector with the red sealing ring plugs into when the trailer isn't hooked up to keep it clean and sealed, that works really well.

To the left of the 7/12 pin connector is the conversion plug, once you replace the 7/4 pin connector on the truck with the 7/12 pin that conversion plug plugs into the 7 pin connector and converts it to a 4 pin connector if you are towing a simpler trailer with just a 4 pin wiring harness.

Then to the left of that are the 4 TPMS sensors that get mounted in the trailer wheels.

Lots of wire tires in the kit, the two really long ones are heavy duty and designed to mount the dummy socket on the trailer tonque up front for the 12 pin connector when not in use. All the little ones are to mount the wiring harness, if you have a camera it will have its own harness that runs to the back of the trailer and plugs into the harness in the picture.

I mounted the TPMS receiver with a couple of stainless sheet metal screws into the aluminum frame of the trailer, up front, I didn't want it to get dunked, although it looks like it is probably watertight. I had a lot of harness left over, I just coiled it up and wire tied it to the front of the tongue. You could mount the receiver with wire ties as well if you wanted, but honestly boat trailers have so many holes drilled in them that a few more won't matter. But your choice.

Thank you for the detailed explanation and identification of all the parts. I understand now.

Great info here man. Question for you, is the camera submersible when you launch the boat?

I noticed that you had a 2022 f350. This is my post. Does anyone know about this. I have a 2022 F350 Super duty Platinum with 4 door crew cab with a long bed. I recently discovered that there is no power supply line to either one of my trailer plugs(bed & bumper). I tested the plugs on my truck with two separate testers and also at an RV repair shop. No 12 volt power at all. I also used the same testers on some 2021 super duty trucks that a family member owns. The 2021s all had a 12 volt power supply. I took my truck into the dealer and was told Ford discontinued supplying power to the plugs in 2022. The dealer said they could add the correct wire and install it for about $700.00 to $800.00 dollars. I ordered my truck with the 5th wheel puck system installed from factory. My brake lights, running lights, turn signals, hazard lights all work properly on my trailer but I can't charge my battery or run my refrigerator when I am towing my 5th wheel. That was part of the purpose of ordering the fifth wheel trailing package. Looking for any help or information regarding this. Thanks.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks to everyone for their work on this. It's by FAR the best information on Ford's trailer TPMS that I've found during my day-long goose chase.

My goal was to get Ford's trailer TPMS working and save myself a screen. I'm working with:
  • 2022 Superduty with the 12-pin next to the spare
  • A trailer with 4 of Ram's OEM sensors in it
  • Forscan for Windows
Note that my TTPMS config screen gives "Trailer Pressure Sensor Equipment Not Available" or similar error message, so I'm not even sure that my truck's software would let me do this. In Forscan, my truck doesn't have the 4 that gets switched to a 6 to activate the system, either.

After looking at the installation instructions for Ford's kit, it looked like I just needed three parts:
  1. Bumper 7/12: HU5Z-14489-B
  2. Cable without Yaw: MC3Z-14B242-A
  3. TPMS module (Ford's language) / TPMS receiver (Schrader's): HC3T-1560-A?, where ? = A, B, C, or D
Parts 1 and 2 were in stock on parts.ford.com. No problem there, except that $218 felt a bit steep.

Part 3 isn't sold anywhere, as far as I can tell. Schrader sells it to Ford as RX001, Ford programs it, and they sell it as part of a kit. I've been able to find a few Ebay sellers that claim to be selling the part, but nothing official.
