Van Side Door Latch

Hello,

I was going to open the side door on my van [barn doors], and the mechanism broke off inside..I think.

I looked over the manual, and didn't find much help.

I'm assuming I'll have to pull the inner door panel to get at it, although the handle on the outside has bolts that hold it on too.

Maybe someone here has done this recently, and can give me a tip or two, before I start pulling it apart.

It sounds like the rod that attatches the handle to the latch has fallen off due to a broken retainer. Pull the door panel off and there will be access holes in the door so you will be able to see it more clearly. I would take a few pics and post them here so we can see what is goin on if you don;t see it.

Yes as an option you can get "double" doors that have hinges and don't slide, the rod that connects the outside handle has fallen off.

I have the latch diagrams I could send as a word doc.
Looks like the old rod assy may have been replaced with
a cable on the newer vans.

It's possible I haven't looked at mine to make sure. I just know how is used to be done. In any case there is most likely a retainer that has fallen off.
