Need help with starting issue.

My 69 f250 camper 2wd auto 360 has an intermittent starting issue. It starts no problem then on occasion I turn the key and get nothing. I can use a short piece of wire to jump the solenoid it starts right up. I’ve replaced the solenoid still happens. I have cleaned the connections and replaced battery wires etc.. still happening. I recently had trans rebuild with new flywheel and starter. I’m thinking it’s a loose ground wire but not sure if it’s from solenoid to starter or to ignition? Or is it an ignition issue. Like I said it’s so intermittent that it’s like driving causes the disconnect and does nothing at all when key is turned. Where should I start looking??

I had a problem like that on my 1968 f 250 390. The slip on connector on the wire from the ignition switch to the solenoid had lost its "spring" tension, and corrosion had built up. I used some pliers to gently squeze the tube like connector on the wire back into shape, scraped out the connector with a piece of wire and some contact cleaner, and used a brass brush to clean off the lug on the solenoid. That solved the problem for me.

Sounds like an ignition switch issue. Since the jumper wire works, the starting system is functional the trigger isn't.

Starting issue

Did you check the neutral safety switch on the steering column?

I’ll have to check that as well as ignition wires and contacts

I too think it is ignition switch. Also check the wiring and connector that is plugged in to the back of the switch. Look for melted connector and signs the wires got too hot. If not this, check ground cable connections to be oil free and tight. Including the cable from engine to firewall.
