Timing question, retarding.
I have a 1995 f150 with a 351w, when i bought the truck i had an abundance of ignition issues including the computer, while i was at it, i took a look at the ignition timing, and it was sitting at 4 BTDC. I adjusted it to factory settings, seems like it runs way too hot, it doesnt register overheating from the sender unit, but opening the hood feels like opening an oven after a short drive.
i lowered the timing to 6 degrees and its running cooler. I know with retarding the timing may come some extra gas consumption and a reduce in HP,
Will this damage anything?

No, it won't, but advanced timing actually makes the engine run cooler. I think you need to back up your assumptions here by installing a mechanical temp gauge so you know what is really going on.
