Saw some synthetic blend 15w40 with Diesel Power Gear (Diesel Brothers) branding on the shelf at my local Tractor Supply store. Unable to find any information on it anywhere (including their site!). Anyone know anything about this stuff? Anyone used it yet? I'm usually a Rotella guy, but...
IMHO Best to stay with name brands, 5W-40 full synthetic with an oil additive (Hot Shots, Archoil or Rev-X). Make sure you have only a motorcraft filter and oem filter cap. Change it every 5K.
I normally run Delo 5W40, and occasionally run Mobile Delvac 5W40, have used Rotella 5W40 and didnt like it. Just my personal preference. I always use Motorcraft filters too. I agree with only using name brand oil... these things can be temperamental, and dont **** off your 6.0 if you dont have to, they cost to much to fix!
Rotella T6 with no additives here. I don't use additives due to the contaminants it adds to the oil. Blackstone Labs suggested I should try 10k on this oil change. Can't give them that. 7.5k is the longest I'll go but it's nice to know.
I have ran archoil 9000 and it's a great product. If I didn't send my oil off for analysis I would use it no question.
I am with those above...
I have tried T6 15W40 a few times and saw no difference than what I have always run otherwise... Motorcraft 15W-40 and good old trusty FL1995.
I have had a few samples done and was told to keep doing what I am doing. Change 3000-5000 depending on what I have been doing. I will stay away from the longer changes but told I could stretch it. Not for me.
I do the changes myself in about an hour and while down there check the belly and grease everything. Buddy gets the oil to burn in the heater for heating the hangar in the winter.
There are a few 15w40 synthetic oils out there that are worth trying:
Schaeffers 15w40
Triax 15w40
I run the 15w40 because my 6.0 and 7.3 trucks are much happier than on 5w40. Neither of mine like Rotella oils. They're done before my 5000 mile interval and they just don't clean and keep things clean like Schaeffers oil and Triax do.
Schaeffers oil meets Ford's requirements but they haven't tested Triax yet. Quite a few 6.0 folks have run it with great results. Between Triax and Schaeffers, it's what I recommend for my customers. They're never disappointed either.
Diesel Brothers Oil ?? LOL -- these clowns just repackage stuff, gouge you --- they're lucky they're not in Jail (EPA and local environment govt offices have been trying.
I'm guessing that what I saw at the one location (and ONLY that one location) was their attempt at testing the market. Looks like it didn't take since most of what was stocked is now marked clearance, and even at the reduced price it isn't flying off the shelf. For the record, I ended up going with Delo due to the Great Rotella Famine. While short supply may cause one to consider something other than what they normally run, I like to make informed decisions and there was/is a definite lack of information on the Diesel Bros oil.
