Saw some synthetic blend 15w40 with Diesel Power Gear (Diesel Brothers) branding on the shelf at my local Tractor Supply store. Unable to find any information on it anywhere (including their site!). Anyone know anything about this stuff? Anyone used it yet? I'm usually a Rotella guy, but...
Ford diesel and other engines are far too expensive to fix when anything happens to them.
Why would anyone want to "experiment" with oil?
You have a LOT of choices when it comes to using FOMOCO approved oil.
The following link is current as of NOV of last year.
Ford continues to recommend motor oils meeting the Ford specification WSS-M2C171-F1
instead of CK-4 motor oils in the 3.2L and 6.7L Ford diesel engines as well as older Ford diesel
engines, 4.5L, 6.0L, 6.4L, and 7.3L. Testing completed on some CK-4 type formulations have
shown inadequate wear protection compared to CJ-4 formulations developed and licensed
before 2016. Therefore, Ford has included additional requirements beyond CK-4 in WSS-
M2C171-F1 to provide additional wear protection.
Since "Diesel Brothers" doesn't seem to have their own refining and chemical companies, I suspect they just rebrand another oil with their name on it. AND, if they make a claim that it complies with WSS-M2C171-F1, if it doesn't show up in the Ford list, then Ford may not agree.
Why take a chance with unknown oils when there's so many approved oils to choose from? (and testimonial "this is what I use and I've never had a problem" doesn't cut it either)
Exactly why I was asking. Rotella was already beginning to be in short supply in my area when that was written. FWIW, I went with Delo (which IS on the Ford approved list) for my last oil change I do not think it's a great idea to "experiment" when there are proven (and approved) options out there. This site is a great resource for information and insight.
