two tone paint line

I wanted to make the two tone paint set up on my truck correct for a 1966 cc. I found a picture of what my truck may have

looked like new, I guess. My truck had a lot of over spray in the bed with the white overspray color coming down to almost the wheel arches in some places. I have seen pictures of the two tone color paint break line traveling the center of trim on the outside and inside on the edge of the fold of the bed. Does that sound correct?

Anyways I have seen someone, I believe it is Chad decode the door badge. This would me a lot because I do not know if my truck is the truck is Wimbledon White or not. Anyways thanks guys the forum is cool. Steve

You paint codes are JM - Rangoon Red and Wimbledon White. It just won't tell you if it was Regular or Deluxe Two Tone on the plate so you either know which it was or choose which way. Ford originally did a pretty fine job on them as far as overspray. I think you truck was probably repainted at some point to get that much white on the wheel wells or the red has worn off. But, I'm sure you'll know.

That last picture in your post above is showing a truck painted in the Deluxe Two Tone scheme, which is probably what your truck was, but here's a factory photo of a 1966 Custom Cab truck painted with Regular Two Tone and also has the side trim. Regular Two Tone was just the top and back side of the cab.

Steve, here's the full decode for your truck.

F10 = F100-4x2

A = 240 1V

K = Kansas City, MO assembly plant

886531 = July 1966 assembly date - 1966 model year

129 = wheelbase in inches

JM - J = Rangoon Red - M = Wimbledon White

F100 = F100-4x2 5,000 Lbs. Gvwr.

E81 = Red crush vinyl and red cody pattern woven plastic seat covering

C = Ford light duty 3 speed manual transmission

09 = Ford 9" 3.70:1 ratio (3.3M) non-limited slip differential

5000 = Gvwr. in Lbs.

129 = Net Horsepower @

4000 = RPM

74 = Seattle, WA district sales office

Your seat would have originally looked like this

Thanks Chad for taking the time to decode that plaque. It is stuff like that holds a forum together. The hood is white, so I will paint it like the picture of the deluxe 2 tone. The weather is starting to turn, so if I do not get some nice weather the paint will have to wait until next spring /summer for the top coat.

I sandblasted the bed and put epoxy primmer down on the top side of the bed and POR 15 underneath the bed. In addition, I put some coats of high build primmer over the epoxy to help hide some of the pitting and dents. My concern now is keeping the box clean from dirt and dust until I get the top coat in place. I will probably hillbilly up some plastic.

I do have the majority of the flaws out of the side panels and I might get by with one more coat of high build, so if we one of those beautiful falls I might go for it and put the top coat on to stop moister and dirt from working their way into the primmer. Yes that was my seat. I hated the material because it would wear out with these little sharp hairs like a cactus.

There's more than one way to apply the two-tone "correctly". I had a '66 in its original 8M and I ensured that the repaint had exactly the same break lines. However, my Canadian-built truck was painted slightly differently than some I have seen, notably Randy Boss9's '66 shorty (5M paint?) which is undoubtedly just as "correct" as mine was. If you copy his paint scheme you won't go wrong.

Fwiw, the 66 f250 I very recently acquired has the deluxe two tone. The white has beed resprayed a brighter white at some point but I believe it to be correct as far as the break.

Nice 66 cc and the camper special badge, the body is nice and most of the paint looks original, wow. My truck was in tuff shape when I thought I would fix it. I hope to get mine that nice. I am thinking of painting the whole bed red and then coming back for the white stripe along the top and down the side to the center of the chrome. That must be how Ford did it. I thought at first the 2 tone paint scheme was a money saver and or time, but now I think it was for looks
