Deep E40D trans pan question
Please disregard this post. All of the offers say the pans will not fit my 1991 Ford F250 E4OD. I don't know what the difference is but they all say they will not fit unless the filter is different.. Thanks anyway.
I would like to get a new E4OD pan with the drain plug. Bronco Graveyard has one for a 4X4 and I am 2WD. My questions are: 1. I will need to get a 4X4 filter correct? 2 How much extra fluid will I need for this pan over stock? 3. Anything wrong with doing this? Thanks as always,

You will need a 4x4 filter if using a stock 4x4 pan aka deep oem pan.
Don't know how much extra fluid, but not much...
Nothing wrong with doing this swap.
There are aftermarket filter retainers, i think they are a good idea, and relatively cheap.
The stock rubber gaskets are supposed to be reusable... don't know what you have as it is an earlier model. Use a good gasket.
Be careful on installation not to over do it on any of the bolts as it is an aluminum case.

Just a heads up, Motorcraft bagged filters are made by Filtran. So save a few dollars and get the same filter without the MC markup.
Be sure to use the pan magnet and I guess you are adding about 1qt of capacity.
Agree on filter retainer. Just installed this and a shift kit in my 4R100.
