I'm installing (or attempting to install) speakers and I bought what I thought were a good pair and then put off installation for a long time. Now I've got the door panel off, the old speaker cut out and new speakers that mount too high.
I've got a 1991 F350 XLT Lariat! Everything said I could do a straight install with the Rockford Fosgate R165x3 pair I bought and while the old speaker was 6.5in and so is this, the mounting is way higher and the foam and rubber would sit flush (and probably smash) against the old foam and inside filler softy material stuff inside the panel. Obviously I'm very technical. Haha.
They might fit if I cut and do all sorts of Frankensteining but I for sure don't want to do that.
Has anyone done a clean install? The old one is so flat and has the protective grille...
I am not crazy about super nutty heavy bass, I just need some good cruising sound!
Sorry, could you take a pic, of what your issue is, saying the mounting is way higher, you know you cant put cover/grill on and put panel on? right? I've had kicker 46CSC654, sound ordnance p-65B, polk audio DB-652, pioneer TS-A1680F-A, TS-A1677S, blaupunk GTX650, have all fit in trucks I've had or buddies have. Heck even the Boss, and Scosche wally world fit, all are 6.5" round.

haha yes, I know I can't put the grille cover on under the door panel but thanks for the vote of confidence! Haha. I'm saying the foam and rubber of the actual speaker sits high , where stock was more sunken AND had a flat grille to protect it.
I don't want to install a speaker with the speaker guts rubbing up against the door insulation. Will post pic in a bit
Obviously the cover is on here, but only until I figure something out! You can see the surround rubber through the mesh just sitting way high past the door metal. This is sounding confusing and pictures probably don't help, I just need an easy install that doesn't compromise sound. Anything touching the surround or cone will do that.
