Long story short, lent my truck to my son a few weeks ago and I haven't yet pulled it apart, but it isn't good. I purchased a used 1997 engine that was supposedly running good when pulled and am going to swap the goodies off my engine (turbo, injectors T500, etc) and swap them in. I know I need a 7/8" ( I think) freeze plug for the mechanical fuel pump hole, and I have already purchased from Riff Raff a new complete engine harness, a set of manifold gaskets and bolts, oil cooler and EBPV rebuild kit, along with up pipe hardware (I have bellowed Internationals already), a whole mechanics set of O-rings. I am looking into whether or not my engine stand is designed to hold this 900+ pound behemoth. I know others like Tugly have done this swap and I was hoping to find a good write-up for it before I really dig into it.
Well, yeah, that's what I am going to do, but I thought if someone had done a write-up here like pretty much everything else we do to these trucks, I would follow along and maybe save a few aggravations, but I guess not.
I'm surprised that nobody knows. I don't know what all you want to change but some of the things I think I've picked up are driver's side exhaust manifold, oil pickup tube in the pan, front cover and as you are already onto, the fuel pump. And I'm thinking that the plenums have less bolt holes.
All the top part of the engine is off except for the mechanical fuel pump and the plenums. I am going to swap my manifolds, the GT38r, injectors, EBPV, oil cooler, T500 HPOP, fuel bowl, I bought a new Exhaust back pressure tube, o-rings for everything, and hardware for the manifolds and up-pipes. Just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything I was missing.
