B600 decode
Looking for a decode on this old B600 bus I found at the local scrap yard. Particularly interested in what transmission it has and what type and ratio rear axle.
Thanks!
C = 330 2V MD
N = Norfolk assembly plant
874343 = 1966 series number
242 = 242 inch wheelbase
No color code. Usually a bus will be chrome yellow. This is a special order, so color could have been part of it, but then it's a cowl and chassis, so not much paint involved anyway
B601 = B600 gas, 15,000lbs GVWR
84 = Cowl and chassis
O66D--this looks like the trans and axle are all together. If this is the case and it really is O66D, then:
O = Dana (Spicer) model 8055-A (or -C) five speed overdrive transmission OR New Process model 541 five speed direct transmission
66 = Timken model F106 Single Speed Rear Axle / 7.20-1 / 15,000 lbs. axle capacity.
D = Ford-Rockwell (Timken) 7,000lbs capacity.
15000 = 15,000lbs GVWR
164 3800 = 164 certified net HP @ 3800 RPM
210746
21 = Atlanta District Code
0746 = Special order number
It is probably the NP transmission as OD makes no sense in a school bus
Since it was a cowl and chassis, I'm surprised the district code wasn't 87 for body company.
Struck out again on the rear axle. One of these days I'll luck up and find a Rockwell H170 with the 5.86 ratio.
Went ahead and grabbed the grille and other odds and ends for wall hangers in my shop..
