I finally found a nice older flatbed. Had looked at a 1960 F600 (see here) a couple years ago but it was more work than it was worth.
Local auction today had this nice '62 and I couldn't pass it up. The guy who consigned it had owned it since 1972, and apparently kept it under cover ever since.
All I know is 91,862 original miles, 292 V8, 4spd, 2spd axle, nice re-paint, glass, and (I assume) interior, new rubber all around, 16' flatbed, dent and rust free. It even still has the generator. Drove it home for $1900.
No warranty plate on the door or pillar, will have to look around some more tomorrow. First 5 of the VIN are F70CU. Current registration has it at 24,000GVW. Might have to search out axle tags for info. I know the rear is an Eaton as is the 2spd.
No rust, no dents, very nice survivor.

Reason: Corrections to mileage and paint condition
The front axle numbers posted have nothing to do with what the GVW is. Look on the axle for a cast ID number similar to this: C1TT-3010-AA and post what it is.
The F350's O/A GVW is most likely 10,000 lbs. The front axle capacity is 3,800 lbs., the rear axle capacity is 7,400 lbs.
Do NOT believe the miles, since the odometers of these trucks read to 99,999.9 then return to ZERO!
I'm really glad you replied to my thread, I didn't know where else I was going to find the answers to my questions.
I spoke with the previous owner today and he told me the mileage is actual.
Will crawl under the truck and see if I can find any Ford casting numbers on the front axle and post back. Any suggestions for the rear axle?
Not sure what the F350 GVW means, this is an F700. I suspect the GVW should be 19,500 or more, but without the warranty plate I'm just stabbing in the dark.
Supposed to rain tomorrow so I decided to look today. Unless the casting number is on top of the front axle, the only other number I could find is 3100A1613 and that number is cast on the RF and LR of the axle. If you look closely in the pic I posted earlier, you can just barely see the number above and left of the casting "B115-1".
Very clean well preserved truck, good buy! '62 F 700's came in 3 GVW's, 21,000, 22,000 and 25,000 GVW. THe GVW depends on what axles and springs are under the truck. The standard front axle capacity was 6,000 with a 7,000 LB optional. The standard rear axle was 15,000 with the 16,000 and 18,500 optional. The 6,000 LB front axle is the Ford-Rockwell 32552, the 7000 lB axle is the FC-901 or FC-903. The 15,000 2 speed Eaton is the 13802, The 17,000 2 speed is the 16802 or 16803. THe 18,500 2 speed Eaton 1 is the 17800 or 17801. Most of the F 700's with the HD 292's came with the 6,000LB front and 16,000 Lb axles. It would probably safe to say you have the 22,000 lb GVW.

The VIN is F70CU2XXXXX.
F70 = F700.
C = 292 2V (The H/D 292 4V is VIN engine code D).
U = Louisville KY Assembly Plant.
The number you posted from the axle is not listed in the parts catalog.
Thanks for the replies guys, I do appreciate them.
tripleframe - Are any of those axle numbers you posted stamped or cast on the housing somewhere? If so, is there a general location to search for them? Sans any confirmed numbers, I'm just going to assume standard front axle and standard rear at this time.
Bill - If I can find any additional numbers on the front axle, I'll post them here. Will have to do a search with an inspection mirror to look at the top of the axle. Not happening today, though, rain is already here and will be all day. Typical wet spring here in the Inland NW.
