I have the annoying issue where the windows occasionally won't work, and the radio doesn't work. It is very random and usually only happens right after start up and will begin working within a few minutes. By random, I mean it can sometimes be weeks/ months between occurrences. Is there a fix I can do at home without having to send the gauge cluster off to circuitboardmedics? The truck is my daily driver again so I can't easily be down a vehicle at the moment.

This happened to me on my old truck. It's the GEM module from what I understand. Do you have a water leak into the cab? One thing I saw that would work quite bit was to smack the dash right above the vent. It saved me a few times when I had to get the windows up. It didnt always work, but did more often than not.
No water leak that I can tell. No recent rain and it happens any time of year but generally more in the heat. I will also sometimes give the dash a technical tap but that doesn't always help.
I had this problem on my 03 f250. I ran a jumper at the fuse box to power the circuit that's needed for the radio and windows. I don't remember what fuse number locations. It was really simple. What you are bypassing by doing this is the 15 minute accessory delay. If done the way i did your radio and windows will work all the time. So you won't need a key in the ignition to operate the windows or to turn the radio on.
Let me know if you need more help. The guy i sold that truck to still parks it a few days a week at my shop. I could take a photo of the jumper if you need it
Failed to mention, this is a 2003 f250. From what I understand its a common problem involving the gauge cluster.
Yes the 2002-2003 models have the accessory delay module as part of the hybrid instrument cluster which communicates with the VSM. My 2002 had a problem where the radio and windows did not stop after opening the doors, kind of opposite of your issue but it turned out to be the VSM. I believe Circuit Board Medics now offers 2002-2003 cluster repair if it turns out to be that. Also I do know that one of the fuses will control the windows and radio but I don't remember which one, if you locate it you could try wiggling it next time it happens in case of a poor connection there.

I have power to fuse, and no windows workimg in my 99 f250, id really like to see the jumper you did, if the opportunity arrises.
Kd5zll, i dont think my work around will help you. The 99 has a gem and different fuse panel setup.
In my scenerio the window/radio fuse was not powered up when the problem was occuring.
My jumper was a 3-4" pc of 14ga wire with a crimp tab on ea end. I inserted it next to the fuse and did the same with another fuse, hot all the time fuse.
I probably did that 15yrs ago. Never had a problem with it. In fact noone ever noticed it except a mechanic buddy once. He said wth is this? I said i fixed it and saved $$$.
I had the same issues and initially did the by-pass. When I learned about the battery saver relay in the cluster I re-melted the solder on the relay and it's been about two years trouble free.
I have been having this issue since i got the truck, i figured the gem was over heating as it generally happens in the heat of the summer, but as i drove around and things cooled down the radio and windows would start working again i will look into it further
