Just got off the phone with Ford regarding the Facebook message I sent to them the other day. (not even sure what department they’re in) here’s the number (866) 631-3788
anyways the lady told me pretty much the same thing that the other lady told me the other day as far as they cannot override any Ford warranty claims.
she could not provide me any information as to where this so-called document is that states it is Ford’s policy to not look at videos for any warranty issues.
She said I might have better luck calling the finance department and asking them about the warranty issue and where it might state that.
all she did was read the notes that the service advisor sent to Ford warranty and the notes that Ford warranty replied with stating the issue it’s not a warranty item. So basically I have a dealership that failed to do their job by notifying Ford warranty of the complete situation.
any other recourse of action or is this pretty much where you roll over and take it in the a*s and wait for the mirror to completely fail.
Frank79 - My mirror has failed (all the time) in unfolding .... the dealership tried to lay the blame on me saying someone must have damaged it because they don't fail otherwise - the mirror has no physical external flaws - it looks like new (less than 12K miles on the truck and it is garage-kept). Two days ago I was given a case number with customer service - they were supposed to get back within one business day ... heard nothing.
In your case - can you find another dealership to take it to? I would keep pursuing it until they replace it. I plan to do the same. Something fishy going on (looks like this started about 7 years ago with Ford denying to replace defective towing mirrors under warranty).
Ford CES rejected my request right away. I did call the dealer back and spoke with the service manager. He will call me back today. I also found a place that will repair the mirror for about $310 (includes parts replacement and return shipping with warranty on the work). I can also buy the power fold motor and gear (along with the metal framing) - not sure how difficult it would be to replace these pieces. The repair place is the same place that sells these parts (the parts are likely recovered from working mirrors where the vehicle was damaged elsewhere). No way I am spending $1500/part + $160/service on something that should be covered by warranty. If I have to spend $310 to get a working mirror - not happy but much more reasonable.
So as new from Ford in August... my drivers side closes after my passenger side. I turned off the Lincoln Navigator auto close in Forscan and just use the button when I need it. Honestly much happier as I can see using the everytime would wear this out soooo much quicker.
I disassembled the mirror and discovered the metal pins were bent, causing the issue. I found a person in Texas that had replacement folding motors and the mechanism (arms) with the pins that I needed. I ordered 2 ($179 each) and replaced them and now the mirror works perfectly.
I did unbend the pins in my original folding mechanisms and the mirror frame did fold correctly again, but I couldn’t get the pins completely straightened so I ordered the new parts. I now have spares if needed.
My dealer service manager was unable to resolve my issue and I refused to spend over $1600 for something they should cover.
I also found a manual mirror (takeoff) to use while I was waiting for the parts. It was $125 and a takeoff for a truck being customized. Considering I am still over $1200 ahead and now know how to repair these mirrors.
