Dealer is ordering me a new passenger side mirror because when it folded in, you can hear a loud squeak, as if plastic was rubbing against each other. Well, over the past few weeks, I noticed my driver mirror was folding in and out considerably slower than passenger. This morning this how how the mirror is acting. Since my truck is set to fold in and out the mirrors based on locking/ unlocking the door, I wonder if the gears or something else is getting worn out? Truck only has 5k miles on her.
Manually push the mirror out to normal driving position. Hold the mirror in that position while you push the switch to cycle the mirrors….you’ll hear some popping but when the opposite mirror moves to driving position the mirror you are holding(to keep it from folding) should also lock in driving position. Mine as done this a couple of times and this procedure “fixes” it for a while.
I’m trading mine in on a new Tremor next month so I’ll let the dealer deal with it under warranty.
Dealer just replace my mirror under warranty. It started acting up one day after I backed out of the garage. Could not be snapped into position and motor continued running for about 10 seconds after it opened up as far as it could. Replacement was $1526, reason I took it to the dealer before warranty expired.
My driver mirror is broken - keeps unfolding past locking position. Dealer refused to replace it claiming the detent pin is broken and that Ford won’t cover it under warranty. My truck has never been touched as far as I know and it just stopped working one day. Dealer thinks someone snapped my mirror forward and broke the pin. It stopped working in my garage …
I tried some of the recommendations above and the mirror still acts funny.
I called my service advisor a few hours ago to inquire when the passenger mirror will be in and to also ask what Ford said about the driver side mirror.
he has no date on when the passenger mirror will be in. According to Ford the driver mirror is not malfunctioning because he told me Ford does not consider one mirror closing slower than the other a defect.
i’m guessing he did not explain to Ford what the video above shows which is the video that I showed him.
with that being said what are my options to get that video to Ford so they can look at it? I can deal with one mirror closing slower than the other but when the mirror does not want to open all the way or close all the way that’s an issue.

Ford CS sucks. Spent a few hours today on hold, to get transferred and then hung up on. Tried again and hung up on again.
So I called Ford customer service which is the number my service advisor gave me (800-392-3673). I spoke to a young lady on the phone and gave her all my information. she was able to pull up my truck and the only thing she told me was why Ford denied my claim. they said one mirror that folds in or out slower than the other is perfectly normal. Ok, I get that.
I explained to her that was only one of the reasons, but the main issue at hand is there are times the mirror folds in or out just an inch or two and requires my assistance to fully close the mirror or extend it outward all the way.
She said she cannot tell me what the service advisor wrote in the notes for the issues that I was having.
I find that quite strange that I cannot get information that a dealer sent to warranty about my truck. The only thing she would tell me is the dealer needs to provide more details. Obviously I can’t talk to anybody who makes the decisions for the warranty according to this young lady and with that being said what’s my next recourse of action?
Finally able to get the sheet from the dealer. Shocking he makes no mention of what I showed him with the mirror opening or closing an inch or two at random times.

I would really call them back and ask to speak with the Service Manager. Ask him to view the video with the SA that wrote it up and then ask where in his description does it say that the mirror will NOT open all the way? The DA SA wrote it up wrong and they need to re-submit with proper info. Incompetence at it's best!!

The shop Forman came out when I first went in a few weeks ago and I showed him the video, then he told the SA to do the paper work and submit the claim.
According this service advisor, he said the problem MUST be duplicated in front of them. Ford apparently will not accept a video as proof. I said great, lets sit here for an hour and ill lock and unlock the truck until it does do it. He didnt like that and said smirky that will cause the motor to burn out because they are not designed to open and close constantly.
BTW, Im trying to search if For will not accept a video as proof on google and coming up empty handed. If anyone has a link, im all ears!

That SA is a DA!! I have used dealers that would cover parts when I told them about an issue and when I came in, would show them. Do you have another dealer to go to or are you stuck with them? And Still try the Service Manager, They oversee the SA and the shop foreman. For the SA to smirk when taking to them, that would just **** me off right there. I don't profess to know it all but I'm not an idiot either. Don't let them treat you like one.

Unfortunately there are 2 local dealers near me that are owned by the same owner. Im beyond pissed! They order a passenger mirror because it makes a small noise when folding in and out but the driver mirror is not! So much for a $70k truck that has 6k miles on it!

Keep on them. If it keeps doing it, it will eventually do it in front of them. At least it will be documented that it does it. And every time it does, take a video. you'll have proof it is more than a random issue. Good luck.
