Hello helpful friends! Sometimes I feel bad only coming here when I have a problem, but here I am again. Hubby's truck is acting up, and here's a big caveat. It is badly in need of the whole head gasket, ARP studs repair and we have coolant spray coating most everything under the hood. This will be addressed soon, but in the meantime it's the only second vehicle we've got.
Turbo was labouring, running at 20 PSI, choking, black smoke, revs too high before shifting...
Checked for codes and got P0478 (exhaust pressure control valve high) initially, and then P0472 (exhaust pressure sensor low).
After the 0478, he changed the EBP sensor, took the truck for a test drive and the 0472 came up. Truck was still acting the same with the new EBP.
We are at 2500 feet above sea level, and current MAP, BARO and EBP readings are:
Readings all in kPa, which I've converted to PSI for your convenience. 92 kPa = 13.34 PSI 97.2 kPa = 14.1 PSI
Is there hope of using this truck while we wait for the expensive parts to come in ?
Can not help with the other problems but that battery voltage is not good at all. That can cause problems. Get that checked out. Connections at battery and grounds as well. I am going with that was a screen shot while running if so the alternator is not putting out, if it was truck not running it is still not a good reading. At rest those batteries should be right at 12.7 volts.
If indeed that is the correct voltage those batteries are toast.
It's been so long since I was on here, I forgot how to reply! Good point, Jimmy, I should have included that - battery voltage is after 2 days of koeo messing with settings on two different scanners - it's on a trickle charger now. Testing to resume in 18 hours or so.

You pretty much flat lined those batteries, keep an eye on them they may not recover and if they do they do not have much life left in them.
If you look up battery charge chart you will find most do not list that low. At 11.9 volts they are dead and off charts.
Inspect the EBP connector and wiring for wear and/or chafes.
Is the new EBP sensor an OEM?
1 psi difference isn't huge by any means (and that is Ford's standard), but usually the EBP is a little closer to the other pressure sensors at KOEO. I like to see within 0.5 psi.
There was a flash update for a false P0470. Sometime in 09 IIRC.
Ultimately it could be the turbo and/or the VGT actuator.

The new sensor is not OEM, no. We realized that it could have been bad out of the box but wanted to chase down other options before springing for a new one. He did wonder if it maybe needs a new pigtail.
For what it’s worth, the EBP volts is 0.8, which is perfect according to my chart.
I was kind of hoping he hadn’t driven it yet and was concerned about the spread in readings, but he said he had and it’s still running the same.

I mentioned the OEM factor, and apparently the dealership in town said that part is backordered, with no estimates on when they might have more. Not sure if that’s Canada wide, or western…
I won’t pretend to understand any of this, but he tried unplugging the sensor. KOEO this is what Dashboss had to say:
Then he started it, and it ran fine so he put it all back together and it’s still running fine.
I’m open to the possibility that my old Dashboss is not up to the task anymore. It has been a little temperamental lately.
