Need some help finding the correct gas cap for my truck. Went to a cruise in and mine got swiped.
1974 Ford F100 aft mounted fuel tank with emissions. I have ordered 2 from Oriellys with same results with vented cap. I need the non- vented cap with the deep cam. I even drove 2 1/2 hours away to Dennis Carpenter to get one and they only had the vented cap. LMC is showing one but I hate to order something then if its not right, having to go thru the trouble of shipping it back. Going to try a couple of J.Y. tomorrow but last time I was there they had crushed the older Fords. Thanks for the help.
Thanks for the help guys. I ordered one from rock auto and one from LMC. Pics from both show what I need. Hope for the best on the end results.
I will let you know. Thanks again.
Bought a locking cap from O'Reilly's, at the time did not know whether it was vented or unvented. Sales guy said to just buy a cap with the same number of latching lugs as my original. I did and it has worked fine for over a lustrum (hat tip to John Wayne.) Where you get in trouble is when you replace a vented system cap with an unvented and eventually create a low-pressure 'vacuum' in the tank. I would think if you use a vented cap, your system (even though presumably emissioned, hence vented from the tank to the carbon cannister) you would be OK. Maybe a stray fume or two?
