I got really bad news. Blown head gasket, oil mixed with coolant, cranckshaft is scratched, cylinder heads cracked, cylinders are bad too. Milage is over 130 k.
Now I look for engine to swap, and I have one quation. Is an old 4.0 OHV compatipble withj 5r55e?
The 5R55E transmission is for higher horse power & torque engines, the 4R44E is for the Less powerful Ranger engines, so we would not want to use a 4R44E transmission with a 4.0L engine, as it isn't built internally to withstand the higher torque output of the 4.0L engine, so wouldn't last as long under towing & hauling heavy loads with a more powerful engine.
Woooops I see you said it was a DOHC 4.0L, not a Pushrod OHV 4.0L, so I'm not knowledgeable about what other changes like computer, sensors, wiring might also need to be made, to convert a OHV 4.0L to a DHOC 4.0L !!!???
ir is not an easy thing to fit othert engine, but there are aftermarket open code ECUs.
The most popular project in Ukraine is SECU. But this is not the best ECU to control transmission. For tranny control i'd recomend RATCU. Open code transmission control unit.
But it a lot of coding-testing work, that's why i found '99 SOHC engine on JY and now i wanna change chains and bearings ant drop it under hood
OK, lets think about this some more. In the USA, the 1999 Ranger 4.0L was still delivered with the OHV 4.0L. Rangers didn't come from the factory with the DHOC 4.0L until 2001.
The Ford Explorer had the DHOC 4.0L available in 1999 here. So I'm thinking for your 99 Ranger you'd at least need the DHOC 4.0L ECM & GEM, to avoid engine transmission & anti-theft system problems.
My engine is taken appart. Things are bad. Cylinders scrached, piston rings are worn. Chains are really bad, .... Only cylinder heads may be reused.
Ok. The engine from JY is not good too. The cylinder block is really good, but head gaskets leak, bearings are worn and it seems to me the only way to build one enge of two.
Dang Pablo, what have you done to anger the engine gods??? What kind of oil, filter & change interval have you been following that caused this much wear??? In the USA, both 4.0L engines are still specified by Ford to use 5W-30, as Both 4.0L engines never got a oil pump up grade, to be able to flow enough Volume of the lower hot /100C viscosity 5W-20, that most 90's engines were back specified for.
In the USA , After market supplier Fel-Pro Technical Information | Fel-Pro Gaskets (felpro.com), has a good product reputation for most of its offerings. I've used their valve cover & transmission pan gaskets on our Ford, Toyota, Chrysler, VW, Renault Alliance, vehicles for long term severe service use.
On my 99 Ranger Pushrod 4.0L, in 2002, the OEM Ford "Revised" Head Gaskets, part numbers YU3Z-6051-AA & YU3Z-6051- BA, installed by the Dealer under warranty, finally stopped a long term, slow, Undetermined coolant leak problem. Both valve cover gaskets & "Revised" head gaskets, are still leak free, so OEM Ford 4.0L OHV gaskets get a thumbs up from me too.
