The reason a GM Pickup of the same era as an OBS Ford has so much more "room" under the hood, is just due to the fact that GM decided that Throttle Body Injection was the way to go, as opposed to Ford choosing to go to port injection. Maybe GM was right, maybe they weren't, but *no* you're never going to get the engine bay of an EFI F-Series to look as "clean" as a GM of the same Era, there is just literally more stuff there, due to the basic design philosophy of the EFI system.
this may be true, but the comparison is not limited to OBS years. If you look at any late model GM truck compared to a 3v triton or newer, the Ford looks like a rat nest while the GM is surprisingly clean. Does it matter if the truck runs good? No, but when you go to work on it the unnecessary clutter can be aggravating
The only thing I like about the square open ness is I can set hot **** on the fender wells and not sorry but the Ford has plastic and rubber I have to be mindful of. I was considering making a wooden board for both sides of my engine that I can support on the core support and then find a good place back to the firewall area to support there so I can lean in the bayfrom center and set tools and stuff to the sides easier. If I need to work on on side vs center, I just would not use that one .
The center would be easy to do as I would just need to support on the intake and then core.
Aesthetics are what you make of them. I get complements all the time with my hood up. Plus I know everything there & where it goes.
I can strip it down as needed quicker than any "stock" engine system & know it will go back correctly.
And it starts, idles, & hauls the mail first time every time.
Wouldn't worry about comparisons to a chev on Ford board too much.

That’s a nice clean engine bay Scndsin.
OP
The K5 you were looking at is not stock either. It should be 305/350 TBI, with air intake from the RH top of of the rad support to the air cleaner. If it is a non A/C truck that will really leave things open compared to yours, put A/C in there and they start filling up too. Not to mention, it’s a generation before your truck. The 88 and later GM trucks with A/C tend to get full of ‘stuff’ as well.

Rr you sure rh? I thought only the in-line and diesels were on driver side and the very rare big block Cali hd wifh ac got the dual snorkel action so both sides
I have a 460 in my '95 crew cab. This is what the engine bay looks like.
As far as OBS Fords are concerned, this is about the cleanest you can get an EFI engine bay without spending BIG money on a full engine resto and updating the electronic systems.
I bought most of the parts from Russell with the 460EFIGuys. After talking for a while, he said they were working on similar parts for the 351W (5.8L) as well. It's most definitely worth looking into, I did everything for about $900.

youd see some summer performance boost If you had a air filter with a duct that went to the fender or the core support that filter is nice sure but soaking your intake in warm which means less dense mixture and warner in combustion chamber. If you have no knock concerns that is moot otherwise
Yeah, I just rebuilt the motor last fall, at which point I changed up the intake setup. Other than that, the block was bored .020 over to true up the cylinder walls, the whole rotating assembly was balanced and blueprinted, and the heads were fully rebuilt with oversized valves and stiffer springs installed. Intake manifold was ported and modified to a specialty single plane setup as well, and the icing on the cake was the custom throttle body that let's you run the round air cleaners. And, obviously I did the emissions delete too.
The motor runs better than it ever has, and significantly cooler than it did before too. Makes awesome power, it's a totally different monster now,, but I'm wishing I did a cam when I built it last fall. The stock cam leaves just a little to be desired.
No knocks, pings, ticks, etc. And it looks awesome, I love it!
And living as far up north in Montana as I do, the hottest it ever gets in the summer is around 102°, so it really doesn't affect much.

with that kind of power and rural ness who would be spending that much time moving slow anyway 😂
Ford grey and matching or hot red , even a dull or satin red can have its place. Silver accidents. Paint things that can’t be polished or brought back. Clean up aluminum. Etc
aoso the v6 Chevy argument isn’t the full story. The air cleaner sits on top but the air is tunneled in from the core support. The trucks back to about 75 or so have done that
when the hood is open there is a large square of dirty red visible with uneven surface. The hood.
Put a liner on the hood maybe find a decal or something. Would make the whole thing at least be even. It helps.
hows your panels and front end look?
Alrighty sorry for the late reply guys. To answer the question above, here is a picture of the dash. Ignore the clutter.
