88 B2 engine swap
here's a question for those of you familiar with the different year models.
i have a 88 b2 4x4 2.9l with 4 speed automatic.
will a 85 2.8l drop in and bolt up without a lot of mods?

Why go back in time? The 4.0 bolts in and makes way more power than that 2.8 or 2.9 could ever hope to.

wanting to make use of what i can get at a reasonable price. i'm not really concerned about power.

Since you go from EFI to carb, you already have "a lot of mods" to make that work.

Find a 2.9, jmo, ymmv.

but will the mounts and transmission bolt up without mods?

…but then you have different fuel pressures to deal with: EFI vs carb. Are the ignition systems the same? I doubt it but I don’t know for sure.
