8.8 swap

Anybody know what it's going to take to put a 9 inch out of one of the trucks into an 80s truck

if the dimensions are the same, it'd be as simple as unbolting the one axle and bolting it in the place of the other, if not cut the mounts off and re weld them were you need them.

I'm hoping to just unbolt the other one and bolt this one in

My 8.8 has an ungodly number of miles on it and the 9 could be rebuilt and swapped out hopefully fairly quickly

they already have similar gear ratios 3.55-3.50

I was wondering if the driveshaft length would be the same. Was thinking about doing this swap sometime in the future

I didn't think about the driveshaft but it should need lengthened if anything I don't think it'll matter

New question do they use the same brakes it's out of a 74 if it matters I bought new pads and drums for the 8.8 before I got the 9 and wanted to swap them

So after googling for a while I learned

late 80s ford uses 12365026 centric part

early 70s ford uses 12365005 centric part

They're about the same size around

70s is ~2-1/4 across

80s is ~2-1/2 across

With any luck I only need to keep my drum backings
