Barden Bumper

Hey guys & gals,

I have a ‘63 F100 4x4 styleside … a “wrongbed” is what we in the ‘61 - ‘66 forum call it. 😉

I’m looking for a “work” rear bumper for it. Because the bed is from your era trucks, the guys over there suggested I ask over here!

Anyone have one, or know where to get one? I’m not particular to the exact style, and it doesn’t need to be pretty. I’d really like to find one that allows the gate to open all the way as in the pic below (not my truck).

Thanks in advance. Feel free to PM or email me: mike.quinn25@gmail.

Be careful with a wrap around bumper, one wrong hit and it'll cave in the rear box sides.

thank you … I’ve heard that from others as well. It seems to me if something hits hard enough to push that steel bumper into the bed, it would crush the bed anyway? Am I missing something?

I believe it will dent in the rear of the bed but that's just me, I wouldn't chance it.

I have seen this style kicking around. I believe they were something that dealers use to install back in the day when a customer wanted a bumper on a truck that didn't have one. This one is just hanging out in the top of the barn at the moment.

The lack of any support at the ends makes me think that it's highly likely to push the bottom of the box in from a strong hit at either end. I would prefer a thick wall pipe for a bumper but even that could crush the box upon a hard hit. I'm looking at the worst case scenario.

I have one of these bumpers laying around. It came on a styleside bed I bought to bolt in place of my stock flareside while I'm fixing all the rust. You're welcome to it if you can figure out shipping/delivery.

This bumper is so stout if you were to hit it hard enough to bend it I think you might be damaging the frame first! It is at least 5/16ths channel, maybe 3/8ths which is about what sched 80 pipe is that size.

That is certainly a lot thicker and stronger than the ones I've seen around here.

I never thought anyone would have been interested in those bumpers so I tossed mine out a few years ago 😬

So, let's start with dimensions and weight. Will need to look at freight carriers that serve both areas.
