Complete Engine adn Trans swap, 4.6 replaceing 4.0

Complete Engine adn Trans swap, 4.6 replaceing 4.0
Need an answer soonest: I can buy a 2002 Explorer 4WD with the 4.6.
Front end is wreaked. Engine and drive line is good.
Thinking of swapping whole engine/transmission ETC in to my OK 02 2WD Explorer with a bad 4.0.
Will have the two trucks side by side so can grab everything from the donor to my OLD truck.
Am I correct that I just need to replace the tail shaft housing and driveshaft to convert the transmission/driveline from the 4WD to 2WD??
I understand the Explorer 4.6 is NOT the same as the 4.6 that comes in my Crown Vic, how different are they??
Any good reason this will now work or is it a very bad idea?? If so why??
I know it is a major job but once done I will have a good truck and feel it is worth it.
Has anyone done such a swap??

A 2V 4.6 is generally a 2V 4.6 aside from some different accessories that are vehicle space dependent.
As far as that transfer case issue, I’m not sure it’s that easy. I know the Bronco 2 used a dummy t-case that a real version could be swapped in and add the driveshaft and you’re golden. But, not sure the Exploders kept it that easy.
