Are there any modifications that can be done to flat tow my 2002 Explorer XLT 2WD Automatic behind an RV? I've read disconnecting or removing the drive shaft to save the transmission (Which doesn't sound fun every time, but maybe one solution) But how about the rear differential? Would that be ok?
Had a thought and I have no idea if it's even possible... Can the rear hubs be swapped out with manual locking hubs so they would free spin while towing?
I've had this vehicle since it was brand new... now an extra vehicle and looking for something to tow behind the RV. Its still in great shape... would love to use it if it's possible but the more I read, seems like it's maybe more trouble than it's worth.
Pulling the drive shaft is the cheapest way. Locking/unlocking rear hubs would be expensive. There is nothing you can do with the differential to disconnect the wheels from the drive shaft.

do I need to worry about the differential if I pull the drive shaft?
