While driving recently my steering has become annoyingly stiff. This only happens from a dead stop or when my foot is not on the gas pedal. When I'm on the pedal it turns just as easy as if it where brand new. The power steering pump is only 2 1/2 years old and i have an 03' F250. I thought maybe it was the pump i put some ATF fluid in the reservoir but still no help. Haven't been leaking fluid from anywhere including the power steering pump. Could the be a belt issue? A steering gear box issue? Anyone have any ideas?
Take the cap off, drive around the block slowly.
Keep it running when you get back, and add more fluid if needed.
Do not over fill it.
Have someone turn the wheels almost all the way left and right while you watch the fluid level.
How loose or tight is the fan belt that drives the power steering pump?
I suspect you have only the one serpentine belt.
Have you checked the adjustment?

It's very tight! I just discovered that if i throw the truck in neutral and rev the engine to get my rpms up it turns freely. I'm thinking there is something up with the pump
