EOT high

Oil cooler installed in 16k ago, forscan ($5 app) monitor on my phone showing temps as high as 237 at hwy speeds 65pm. (2005)

Could this really already be clogged, not sure how reliable/accurate the forscan app is.

Any thoughts or suggestions?? Thanks!!

Forscan is reliable, check cold temps in the morning after a long overnight sit.

Could it be clogged, that depends on how clean the coolant system was before the new cooler was installed. Some have has a newly installed cooler clog in less than a few hundred miles. If you are using an ELC coolant, you have the possibility of backflushing your relatively new cooler.

I had new heads, HGs, HPOP, oil cooler, I/C, aluminum 3 pass radiator, etc. installed 3 years ago. Plus I ran a coolant filter for 8 years prior and I cut them open to check for debris. Nothing. The mechanic installed GO5 coolant. I had 158K on it at the time the work was completed. The ECT and EOT were less than 10*F. I have an X4 tuner that monitors the temps. Now I have 170K on the motor and my ECT runs at 192*F and my EOT averages 227*F. I have seen it as high as 242*F when towing. So I recently flushed the cooling system until clear water run out the tank with the engine running. The first flush was with Preston Super flush. No change. So I got Irontite Thoro-flush and no change. I put in Rotella red ELC coolant and no change. Changed the coolant and oil temp sensors. No change. I give up!

The backflushing only works if you have particles trapped in the intake. I don't think there is any way to clean G05 out of a cooler. There is a mod on several forums who says Cascade with Dawn will dissolve the residue, I'm not convinced, but I never tried it.

I am amazed that anyone still might be running the G05 coolant. Not like the warnings are hard to find!

Jack, what would you recommend for heavily contaminated coolant systems ?

Hartwig, I'm really not sure what would really dissolve the material. But, at some point, I want to dump a test section of my old heater core or oil cooler into a bath of the Cascade with Dawn and observe what it does.

When I cut apart my old oil cooler after flushing with Restore, RestorePlus, Ford VC-9, there was still the silicate. And I ran for longer than recommended and all of those twice. After that, I got a little better, but not to the point where you would not replace the oil cooler.

At the time, those were the three which we all called on to use. I did not use and have bought Ford VC-1, which is supposed to be a silicate cleaner. So that another bath for old parts to try, but I don't know that it would clean this mess. The Restore products, per the MSDS, are the same as the Ford products.

I'll add in the photos I have from the prior work I believe you've seen, but add for those who have not.

Karl's (Nylyon) cooler was never flushed.

My original cooler ran all of those chemicals for days. I had the same differential as Karl to start with, so I think the chemical cleaning helped, but using the chemicals for many more hours than the companies recommend. While it's more open, the silicate, I believe, insulated the cooling effects. And with the heater core cut apart lately, the material was still in there, too.

My cooler from the new engine that always ran ELC. The passages were clear, but the intake port was clogged with particles. That possibly could have been backflushed out but would have taken several attempts.

Watching this post and decideing what I want to do with mine. I'm running 188 ect and about 207 eot at 70, that's a 17° delta. At 95° F outside. I know my thermastat is pretty well toast. It's a 192° I also purchased the oil cooler flush kit.
My real big question is about the chemicals. Have read a few posts that say you could do more damage than good with chemicals, if you don't get it just Wright. Having to do the oil cooler again would -uck.
I'm going to do the thermastat and cleaning this week.
