Old green developed a new oil leak, but haven't had time to deal with it. It isn't anything major, but always leaves a drop or two. Had a few minutes, so crawled under to see what we could find. Found the oil dripping out of here. What is this? It looks like a weep hole, but maybe it is there because of damage?? It is right in front of the oil pan. Should we take some JB Weld and seal it up?
To me, that looks like the hole in what I think is called the transmission inspection cover. Oil from up top drains out a hole in the rear of the block on the passenger's side and down through that way. If you have a manual trans, the oil can muck up your clutch plates but if you have an automatic, it's no harm no foul down there. Next would be to climb up top and see if it is, in fact leaking up top. A top end leak is preferable over not. If it's not from up top it could get convoluted.
One of the things you learn over the years on these old engines is to keep them clean, so when you have a leak develop, you'll see it before oil is blown all over the engine.
Some of these guys you could cook dinner on their engine, just blame it on OCPD.... .
Normal in the sense that any leak in the valley, eventually shows up dripping through the cover plate..
