Yesterday doing a short move with 5th wheel after going through town just started to get on it when I heard this "loud" pop, thinking great just blew a tire. Pulled over checked all the tires on the 5th wheel and truck and good to go. Thinking what the... looked under the truck no fluids on the ground, popped the hood looked everything over which appeared to be ok. I was a mile from the dump station and figured I'd check everything over there while dumping. That's when I realized climbing the hill that there was no turbo boost....great. After checking again this time I noticed that the rubber hose popped from one end of the clamp.
Called the Ford dealership in Rapid City an hour away and they had one. The wife was at the boondock spot with the other truck 5 miles away so took it slow and easy there. Set the 5th up and took off to get the part.
$98.40. Asked if he had another one so I could have a spear incase it happens again and not be stuck somewhere or you never know a fellow Ford truck on the side of the road with this blown.
The parts guy said during Sturgis motorcycle rally they have 10 of these on hand.
Anyways should be a straight forward repair today. 49,100 miles on the truck.
It was a nice easy repair 45 minutes tops. Took it out for a test drive, boost and power restored. Checked the old tube and everything looks good. I'll get some brake cleaner to clean the inside up. All it appears is that the side of the rubber piece that didn't have a screw clamp on it just pulled out from the pressed clamp that was on it. I'll get a screw clamp and save this tube for the guy that's broke down.
Rudys makes an aftermarket replacement for just this reason. I've had mine for some time now with no issues .
Its definitely a good piece of mind to replace that and get rid of that plastic stuff.
I remember reading that thread when it happened and meant to get a spare for the truck just kept forgetting. After realizing the part that failed that thread was the first thing I thought about.
Mine failed just like youres. Not sure why they have a welded band around that hose. Not sure how they even put that together. I just replaced that band with one of those fancy hose clamps. Then I got the Rudy's and I don't bother to carry a spare. Put the old one in a box someware.
I wouldn't bother with stock, go aftermarket. I dropped my stock one for SPE's. I keep the stock one around as a spare but there aren't really any failure points with the SPE version.
