Turbo hose issues

On a recent trip pulling my 38 foot fifth wheel I blew the hot side of the turbo hose off (Blue- Hose) put it back on with a good cleaning and alittle hair spray then still noticed a loss of power so upon arriving at my destination I put it the shop they discovered a bad connector at the VGT solenoid, and split in the Cold air hose that routes under the Air Filter. All was good the truck seemed to run fine.. But wait, on the return journey home less than a hundred miles away the shop where it was fixed $500 earlier, the new cold air hose (CAV?) blew apart I mean blew a hole in it. I have watched my SG II and noticed at about 23 # of boost it switches to a negative # as high as -13.4 Any thoughts?

Check your PMs.
reprogram the gauge with a different equation, that one tops out at 23.

crappy plastic hose everyone gets rid of... you need to upgrade to the metal ones... you also need to reprogram your SG as you shouldnt be seeing a negative number on the boost readings.. mines been outputting 29lbs on the mechanical gauge i have.. not blowing off any tubes... and metal up and down pipes..

Part of that could be something rubbed the hose to weaken it. Change that to the metal tube AND then even double the clamps if needed. I run double clamps on mine to prevent blow offs... the woman in the car next to me thought I shot her or at least popped one out the window.

Theory?? Wondering now if the intercooler is failing /plugged? Took infrared readings at the the hot side of the intercooler and the cold side as well noticed a 33 to 34 delta between the two.. Hot side first time was 158 cold was 124. Took readings again after I had sprayed degreaser on the coils of the intercooler and hit it with a pressure hose(Water), second readings were Hot 134 /Cold 101..I had driven the truck about 5 miles hard trying to rev the boost up to 25 but without a load highest I could get was 22 but that at 87 MPH too!! I have no idea what the normal operting parameters are anyone know?

at 87mph your pretty close to the mph limiter and the high end of the turbo limits.. thats provided you havent deleted the mph and rev limiters and not running non-stock turbo..

most dont worry about the cooler temps tbh.. if your intercooler was blocked youd most likely have blown off the factory plastic end caps by now.. ntm youd be blowing the hot side pipe off just about every time you got on it and wouldnt be blowing the plastic cold side pipe.. the factory intercooler is only built to handle 100psi before they "explode".. The all aluminum welded ones are much stronger.. but at this point though your looking more at high pressure aftermarket performance turbos..

Reason I was concerned about temps is my thought was the heated plastic would stand less pressure and possibly fail like the one I had did. I'm a simple minded person and really I'm trying to learn the mechanical side of things please forgive my short comings I really appreciate all of the advice and knowledge that everyone shares so freely.

heat is the enemy of plastics thats for sure.. but the weakness in the flex joint of the plastic pipe is why we upgrade to the metal pipes... moves all the flex to the rubber boots which are far stronger than the plastic pipe is... in addition that pipe is also baked by all the engine heat trapped under the hood...

I guess I really need to seek out some upgrades such as the metal pipes you spoke of

Mine blew out exactly as yours did, in the flex bellow. Truck was 18 months old with 4,000 miles on it. Ford replaced the plastic tube with a metal tube under warranty. The year it blew out was 2005.

I found the original photo, taken about 2 hours after the failure while we were at the Ford dealership.
